JBL, Kane, Ted DiBiase & Cody Rhodes def. Batista, John Cena, & Cryme Tyme

The Great Khali def. Jimmy Wang Yang

Edge def. Jeff Hardy after interference from MVP.

JBL makes his way to the ring.  CM Punk is ringside for this one.  Cryme Tyme is out next, followed by Ted DiBiase.  John Cena is out next, followed by Kane.  Batista makes his way out, and we’re set for tag team action.  Not sure why these guys all came out in that order, seeing what the teams are tonight.

Kane, JBL, Ted DiBiase, & Cody Rhodes def. Batista, Cena, & Cryme Tyme

Batista and Kane start this one.  Kane backs Batista into the corner and tags in Cody Rhodes, who holds his own before he’s powered into Batista’s corner, who made the tag to JTG.  Cryme Tyme make quick tags, keeping Cody in their team’s corner.  Cody finally gets to his corner and tags Kane, who takes Shad down as we head to a commercial.  Back from break, JBL is working over Shad.  He tosses him out of the ring, where Kane drops him on the guardrail.  JBL tosses Shad back in the ring, but only gets a two count on a pin attempt.  JBL tags in Ted DiBiase, who continues the offense on Shad.  Meanwhile, JR shills the NBC season finales.  DiBiase gets Shad into his corner, and gets the referee’s attention while his teamates work Shad over.  He gets the tag to Cody Rhodes, who still won’t let Shad get a tag.  Cody tags in JBL and the heels continue to work over Shad Gaspard.  The quick tags by Team JBL continue as John Cena paces back and forth on the apron across the ring.  Shad finally gets the tag to John Cena, as JBL gets the tag on the other side.  Cena takes JBL down, and hits the 5-knuckle shuffle.  He goes for an FU, but gets kicked in the face by Kane, who gets speared by Batista, who goes crazy on all of the illegal men from JBL’s team.  JTG gets the tag, and Cena launches him onto Ted DiBiase, who wasn’t the legal man.  The legal man comes back into the ring and hits a clothesline from hell on JTG to take the victory for his team.

The Great Khali is walking through the hallway with Ranjin Singh.  Khali is in action next.

But first, Jeff Foxworthy tells us about Generation Rescue via video package.

The Great Khali makes his way to the ring.  Ranjin Singh wanted us to see a video package of Khali destroying a bunch of people throughout his career.  Tonight’s victim, Jimmy Wang Yang.

I already typed that Khali won this match.  Because you know Yang isn’t getting any offense in this one.  Khali wins this one via Tree Slam.  Thanks for coming, Jimmy.

This Monday on RAW, John Cena will team with Batista to challenge Ted DiBiase and Cody Rhodes for the World Tag Team Championship.

We get a recap of Edge’s recent marital troubles.  In fact, it’s the exact same recap we got yesterday on SmackDown.

The Rated R Superstar, Edge takes on The Charismatic Enigma, Jeff Hardy.  That match is NEXT!

We get a rundown of the current SummerSlam card as we come back from break.

The man who will be taking on The Undertaker at that event makes his way to the ring, and he’s ready for competition.  JR tells us about what Edge did to Mick Foley last night on SmackDown, which is a neat trick, since this show was taped on Monday.  The time warp continues as we see what JR is talking about.  You could actually tell that JR’s commentary was done in post production.  Anyways, I digress…

Edge vs. Jeff Hardy

This one is gonna be good.  They lock up to start the match, Edge backs Jeff into the corner.  Edge swings at Hardy, but Jeff ducks.  Hardy chants his name along with the fans.  Edge gains control of the matchup, beating Jeff up – though only momentarily.  Jeff leaps over a charging Edge in the corner, and takes him down into an armbar.  Jeff gets tossed out of the ring, but slides in as Edge slides out after him.  Jeff hits one of his swinging from the ropes dropkicks, then lands a springboard cross body.  He misses another high risk attempt though, crashing and burning on the outside as we take a commercial break.  Edge is in firm control as we come back, working on the leg that Jeff Hardy hurt on his missed high risk move before the break.  Jeff tries to fight back, but he doesn’t seem to be able to, and Edge remains in complete control.  He slams Jeff’s knee against the steel post.  Hardy finally gets room to breathe when he reverses an Irish whip into a short-arm clothesline.  Hardy starts to battle back, tying Edge to the tree of woe, but Edge sits up, causing Hardy to miss his baseball slide.  Jeff gets the last laugh though, hitting another swinging from the ropes dropkick dealy.  He goes for a twist of fate, but it’s reversed into an impaler DDT, off of which Edge gets a two count.  Edge gets set up for the spear, but Jeff moves out of the way.  He hits the Whisper in the Wind, and covers Edge for two.  He hits an X-Factor style move, and goes up to try a Swanton.  Edge moves out of the way, and Jeff jumps down.  Edge goes for another spear, but Jeff leaps over him.  As Edge is down on the outside, MVP comes and boots Hardy in the face as the referee was busy counting.  Edge rolls back in the ring and hits a spear, picking up the win over the Charismatic Enigma with the assist from MVP.

My Thoughts:

In the grand scheme of things, Saturday Night’s Main Event doesn’t mean a whole hell of a lot.  It’s purpose is to showcase the WWE outside of it’s three main shows and Pay Per Views.  That said, it was a pretty good show, even if some of the commentary did sound like something you’d hear in the SmackDown Vs. RAW videogames.  The idea here is to gain new viewers, and I think with Jeff Hardy taking on Edge in the main event, they just might, as these two are very exciting to watch, and the match itself was pretty good.  I enjoyed the show, and hopefully it’ll help the WWE in the grand scheme of things.  Hopefully this is going to set up a match at SummerSlam between MVP and Jeff Hardy, but who knows.  That’s it for me, I’ll see you guys on Tuesday morning for Monday Night RAW, if I don’t post anything else between now and then.
