Arnold Schwarzenegger is in New York today to be on one of my favorite TV shows! That’s right, he’s a guest on The Tonight Show with Jimmy Fallon to promote his new movie, Sabotage. And he’s also on some other show filming live from New York tonight – Brooklyn to be more precise. He’s one of the guest hosts of Monday Night RAW! But we’ll get there in a little bit. Some other stuff happens first. What kind of stuff? I guess you’ll have to read on!
I watched 2 hours of this show and still have no idea what happened, so I’ll start over and post my findings here. Go ahead, click the “Read More” link. You know you want to.
You would have thought that the WWE would have promoted the fact that the Rock was appearing on Smackdown tonight. Nope. They kind of forgot to do that. Yet they spoil other outcomes on the same program on their website. Weird. I mean it’s Smackdown, it’s not like we’re getting a surprise return or anything either… right? Well since this will be the final Random Randomness of 2011, I figured I’d end it off with a stunner er I mean bang. This week I’m gonna do something I’ve always wanted to do and take a look at some of Stone Cold Steve Austin’s movie and tell you whether you should watch them or not. Now, I’m only gonna focus one the ones that he was the major star in, so I don’t want to hear any complaining that I left out “The Expendables” or any other movie that he was a co star in. Since there is one or two out there I haven’t seen yet, I won’t be talking about those either. So without further ado, lets get this show on the road:
1. The Condemned (2007)- His “first” starring role, he plays a convict who is forced to fight other convicts to death as part of an illegal game broadcast to the public. We all mostly know this one since it’s a WWE Films product that was crammed down out throats until it tanked at the box office. And hey I don’t blame it I payed to see it in the theater and was throughly disappointed with it. It kept having that feeling that it was missing something. Well my opinion is that if you haven’t seen it, don’t waste your time, it’s not even on netflix and I don’t recommend paying money for it.
2. Damage (2009)- He plays a prisoner just released from prison who ends up working in the illegal underground fighting world fighting MMA style in order to help the daughter of the person he killed in self-defense. This isn’t a WWE Films release and was straight to DVD. I actually liked this movie and is probably the best of all that I’ve seen, so check it out if you can. I found it in the $5 DVD section at Walmart.
3. Knockout (2011)- He plays a janitor (who was a former boxer) in a high school who stands up for a new kid who gets bullied but the “popular kid who is the school star athlete” type. The kid tries out for the boxing team which ironically the bully is also on, is unsuccessful, Austin trains him on his own, he challenges the bully to a match where if he wins he’s on the team, bully wins but shows respect to the kid, they shake hands, kid makes team anyway, we all live happily ever after the end. Yeah this movie was pretty predictable, I almost shut it off several times. This isn’t a WWE Films release, but it should since it fits their anti bullying campaign. I don’t recommend this movie hence why I told you the whole plot. But if you must netflix it.
4. Hunt To Kill (2010)- Here Austin plays a Border Patrol Officer who gets kidnapped, along with his daughter, by a bunch of thieves and is made to go after another thief who betrayed them and is in the woods. Yeah I know the plot sounds kinda confusing, but trust me it isn’t. This one was really good in my opinion and probably the most action packed of all the films on here so I suggest you check this one out. It is available on DVD and netflix you can find it in both places.
5. The Stranger (2010)- In this film, Austin plays a man who has lost his memory. He spends the whole film trying to remember who he is and how he got to where he was. What is it? Well you just have to watch it to find out. Not a bad film in my opinion and worth a viewing or two if you can find it. I found it in the $7.50 section but if you wait a few weeks it’ll probably be in the $5 section soon enough.

The Devil’s Favorite Demon is also the Father of Destruction’s favorite son, as proven by Paul Bearer’s assistance in Kane’s victory over his half brother The Undertaker at Hell In A Cell. (My vote: 5)
3. Wade Barrett (8)
The leader of Nexus finds himself up five spots this week following a victory over John Cena that forced Cena to be a part of the Nexus. Using his new authority over Cena’s career to help himself win the battle royal and become number one contender for Randy Orton’s WWE Championship didn’t hurt, either. (My vote: 2)
4. John Cena (4)
Even I ranked John Cena high on my ballot this week, despite his loss to Wade Barrett at Hell In A Cell. Cena played his role as the conflicted hero forced to join the enemy better than anybody thought he could. Legendary is available on DVD and BluRay at Walmart, I saw it, I enjoyed it, so I’ll plug it here! (My vote: 3)
5. Daniel Bryan (5)
The WWE United States Champion successfully defended his title in a triple threat, submissions count anywhere match at Hell In A Cell against John Morrison and The Miz, in what I consider a Match of the Year candidate. One would have to think that if he hadn’t been beaten so handily by Sheamus this past Monday night on RAW, Bryan’s rank would have gone up. (My vote: 8)
6. Edge (10)
Edge’s war on stupidity ran over three of the nights that this week’s poll covers. On SmackDown he ruined Jack Swagger’s celebration, spearing his eagle mascot. At Hell In A Cell, he interrupted Alberto Del Rio and then defeated Swagger in an impromptu match. His momentum came crashing to a halt on RAW, after being traded to SmackDown and then receiving a beatdown from The Miz and Alex Riley. (My vote: 4)
7. The Miz (6)
Mr. Money in the Bank tapped out at Hell In A Cell, but redeemed himself with the destruction of Edge, while saving Michael Cole, on RAW. (My vote: 9)
8. Sheamus (7)
Sheamus may have lost at Hell in a Cell, but his impressive showing in his match with Randy Orton and his subsequent decimation of Daniel Bryan the following night on RAW allow the Celtic Warrior to stay in the top 10. (My vote: 7)
9. Undertaker (3)
With Paul Bearer by his side last week, The Undertaker rose from the depths of wherever anybody that doesn’t make the Power Poll goes to hit number three, but drops to number nine as Paul Bearer has now aligned himself with Kane and cost The Undertaker the World Heavyweight Championship. (My vote: 10)
10. Alberto Del Rio (NR)
His name is Alberto Del Rio! But you, you already knew that. After mocking Rey Mysterio with an actual chihuahua on SmackDown, Del Rio attacked The Rated R Superstar from behind at Hell In A Cell, putting Edge at a distinct disadvantage in his match with Jack Swagger. (My vote: N/A)
It’s been a long three weeks without cable at the ThinkSoJoE household. That’s three RAWs, the first SmackDown on SyFy, and after this Thursday, three iMPACTs that I missed – as they air, anyway. What really bugs me is the fact that for the first time in years (if ever), I’m going to miss the first three games of the Buffalo Sabres season. Well, on television. That’s what a radio’s for. I’ll finally have cable again next Thursday.
That’s not to say I haven’t been watching wrestling. In fact, I happened to see Hell In A Cell this past Sunday and RAW the next night. The problem with not having cable is, there’s only a limited amount of television you can watch via an antenna, at least in this area with the antenna I have, so your DVD collection gets old quick. So on Monday, between watching HIAC and RAW, I did something completely out of character – I watched a WWE Film.
Yes folks, I hit up my local RedBox (which, at Walmart, is actually blue) and picked up Legendary, which, of course, stars John Cena. And much to my surprise, it was actually good. I’m not saying we should give John Cena an Oscar nod for this, but he definitely played the role better than I ever expected him to. I certainly recommend checking this one out if you’ve got a couple hours to kill.
Now, after being surprised by Cena’s acting in Legendary, something happened. On Monday night, John Cena played his role as the reluctant ally to Nexus perfectly. I’m a cynic when it comes to professional wrestling sometimes, and because I know the business so well, sometimes it’s hard to suspend my disbelief and watch as a fan, but for the last few days, that’s exactly what I’ve tried to do. And as a wrestling fan, I was intrigued by the way Cena played his part following his loss to Wade Barrett at HIAC and the following night on RAW. I’m very interested to see how far the storyline with Cena in Nexus will go, and what the next step for the Barrett/Cena dynamic is. The smark in me wants to kick the fan in me’s ass for praising Cena right now, but oh well.
I’m glad to see that Goldust is finally getting a push and returning to his old “bizarre” persona, as opposed to his “La Resistance made me get electrocuted so I have tourette’s” persona. As AlyKat said in her excellent RAW review, only Goldust would send love letters to a belt.
Holy shit. Where did this John Morrison come from? The guy’s been into Parkour training for ages, and they’re just now making it a huge part of his in-ring style? Climbing that light board at HIAC and diving out onto everybody else from that high up? Where’s Joey Styles to scream “OH MY GOD!” when we need him, huh?
MacGruber came out on DVD and BluRay today. I hit the blue RedBox again and picked up the BluRay, for the sheer fact that a few WWE Superstars were in the movie. Chris Jericho, Mark Henry, MVP, Kane, and The Great Khali make up MacGruber’s team (he rejects The Big Show after seeing him kiss another man), at least until he inadvertently blows them up. The movie has it’s moments, but I wouldn’t waste my time on it. I’m sure the 10 minutes that the WWE guys are in the film will pop up on YouTube any time now.
