I was sick yesterday and I’m just now sitting down to watch SmackDown. So we’re gonna do things a little differently this week – I’m going to watch the show, and I’ll post my thoughts and the match results afterwards. Ready? Here we go.

WWE SmackDown Episode 533: “I Walk Alone”

Undertaker is one of the best promo men in this business. So is Chris Jericho. Guess who finally got to cut a promo with each other? Jericho told Undertaker that he’s not a dead man, he’s just a man. The confrontation became physical with The Undertaker getting the better of it with a boot to Jericho’s face.

WWE is really trying to build up Batista as a monster heel. He’s going to do pretty well in that role, personal opinions of the guy’s work aside.

Dolph Ziggler & The Hart Dynasty def. John Morrison & Cryme Tyme

JoMo seemed to hurt his ribs early in this one and it showed throughout the match. In the end, Ziggler made a blind tag and dropped Shad with a ZigZag – and not the ZigZags you’d imagine Shad is used to.

Rey Mysterio already has the underdog thing going as a small guy, why does WWE feel the need to make him a little bitch whenever somebody turns on him?

Beth Phoenix def. Brittany Carter

Keeping on the “Why does WWE feel the need” subject, we all know Beth Phoenix can kick ass in the ring, why do WWE feel the need to stick her in the ring with jobbers to establish her dominance? Beth wins with what Matt Striker refers to as a “Vulgar Display of Power.” And you guys wonder why Matt Striker is my favorite commentator.

Drew McIntyre def. Jimmy Wang Yang

Holy crap – Yang is still employed? McIntyre knocked him to the floor from the top rope before the match even started. McIntyre wants some real competition. He goes to leave, but Yang asks for the match to start. He probably wishes he didn’t, because McIntyre made short work of him.

Batista’s starting to really develop as a promo guy – he pretty much says that he’s not here to make friends, he’s here to win the World Championship.

Rey Mysterio def. Mike Knox

Speaking of good promo guys, I’m disappointed that we didn’t get one from Knox before this match. Knox is pretty impressive in the ring as well. In the end though, it’s the predictable ending – Mysterio with the 619 for the win.

R-Truth def. CM Punk

Matt Striker says that Scott Armstrong being the referee for CM Punk’s match is “irony.” I say it’s a conflict of interest. Bands or artists mentioned by Matt Striker in this match: Johnny Cash, Suge Knight, Minor Threat, Iggy Pop. Punk thought he had a three count, but referee Scott Armstrong told him it was two. Punk told him to count faster. So he did – when Truth rolled up Punk and got the victory.

Michelle McCool tells Mickie James to pack her bags and go away, and you can see the glimmer of hope in Mickie’s eyes as she thinks about the prospect of doing so. The gist of the promo was that Mickie and Michelle are captains of opposing Survivor Series teams.

Look at this tool.

Look at this tool.

Josh Matthews is goofy looking.  Matt Hardy is pissed off.  That’s pretty much all you need to know about Matt’s pre-match promo.

Batista vs. Matt Hardy

Kind of a lackluster main event.  Batista causes it to be a no-contest when he destroys Hardy on the outside.

My thoughts: a pretty good show, except for the Batista/Hardy match.  I’m out, I’ll see you guys tomorrow night for RAW
