SmackDown thoughts; No Way Out predictions
By thinksojoe · · 16 CommentsWow, a busy day here at BWF today, isn’t it? We’ve got part four in my series on WWE Pay Per View, Drowgoddess’ look at the TNA roster, and now this! I haven’t quite made it through SmackDown yet. I got up to the main event, so I’m going to give my thoughts on the show up to that point, watch the fatal four way on my DVR, talk about that, then give my No Way Out predictions.
After the jump, of course.
It took me two days to finally get around to watching SmackDown this week. The original plan was to watch it immediately after the Buffalo Sabres’ game against the Sharks and review it, but since that game happened so soon after the tragic crash of flight 3407 just outside of the city, it was very emotionally draining. The moment of silence at the HSBC Arena prior to the game was one of the most powerful and surreal moments I’ve seen on television in about 7 years.
Anyways, I digress. I could sit here and make up excuses why I didn’t get to the SmackDown coverage all day, but you guys want to read about the show, not my coverage of it!
SmackDown was – pretty lackluster, actually, giving that it was the go-home show to a Pay Per View. It wasn’t Impact-before-Against-All-Odds lackluster, but still. Unlike John Cena on RAW, however, at least Edge came out and talked about his title defense in the Elimination Chamber and had some interaction with The Big Show.
For what felt the 700th straight week, the World Tag Team Champions, The Miz and John Morrison, pinned the WWE Tag Team Champions, Primo and Carlito. The difference this week is that somebody actually put something on the line! No, not a title, that would be silly. The Colons put dates with the Bella Twins on the line. Then they lost.
I had a debate over the past week with some fellow wrestling fans about Shelton Benjamin. I argued that Benjamin shouldn’t have to utter a word to get over given his ability in the ring. Virtually everybody I talked to took the other side of the debate, but Benjamin didn’t hurt my case by running in on MVP’s match with Chavo Guerrero and dropping him with Pay Dirt. Chavo may have lost by DQ, but he made a case for himself by hitting a Frog Splash on the fallen MVP.
Maria looked pathetic in the ring, even in victory over Michelle McCool. A rollup on a distracted opponent doesn’t earn any credibility for last year’s Playboy Diva.
R-Truth may have stolen his gimmick from Men on a Mission (or PG-13, or PN News, depending on what time frame you’d like to consider), but Ezikiel Jackson stole his look from Ahmed Johnson. R-Truth picked up the win over Jackson.
Jeff Hardy finally returned! After being hyped up by commercials for an entire week, Jeff’s big return consited of – talking about wanting to win the title back at No Way Out. No fight, no match, no sign of brother Matt. Just talking. Though they did that cool “eerie music in the background” thing on his promo like they did for Matt a few weeks back.
Edge stood tall to end the show, spearing The Big Show at the end of a fatal four way between Triple H, The Undertaker, Vladimir Kozlov, and Big Show.
Meh.
No Way Out Predictions:
ECW CHAMPIONSHIP: Jack Swagger (c) vs. Finlay
Swagger will retain his championship. There’s no question in my mind about that, since the next challenger for the title is a strong babyface in Christian.
ALL OR NOTHING MATCH: Shawn Michaels vs. JBL
While I think this match is wasted here (see “Why I Hate: No Way Out“), I guess it could lead to something big at WrestleMania. I don’t know, I think given the stipulation, HBK should pick up the win here.
NO HOLDS BARRED MATCH: Shane McMahon vs. Randy Orton
Not only will Orton likely win the match, McMahon will probably take “The Randy Orton Super Magic Mega Kick of Final Ultimate Death!!!” (Thank’s for coining that one, Green Teabagger!
WWE Championship Elimination Chamber: Edge (c) vs. Triple H vs. Jeff Hardy vs. The Big Show vs. The Undertaker vs. Vladimir Kozlov
I’d love to see Jeff Hardy win and defend against brother Matt at WrestleMania. Edge doesn’t seem to have anybody lined up as a potential challenger in Houston on April 5th, and neither do any of the rest of the guys in this match. Hell, let’s go with Hardy, just for that reason.
World Heavyweight Championship Elimination Chamber: John Cena (c) vs. Chris Jericho vs. Kofi Kingston vs. Kane vs. Rey Mysterio vs. Mike Knox
Ugh. Cena, unless WWE plan on going the David Arquette route and putting the title on Mickey Rourke at WrestleMania, then Jericho. So my prediction is Cena.
That’s it folks, I’ll be back sometime tomorrow with No Way Out thoughts!

ECW Championship: Agreed. Swagger is a much better opponent for Christian, and their whole confrontation is pointless if Swagger doesn't have the belt.
All or Nothing match: Unless we're all wrong and the big ending to this feud IS a match at Mania, HBK should probably get a win here.
No Holds Barred match: Orton HAS to win this. Do we have to pay GT royalties every time we say/write that? I hope not.
WWE Championship Elimination Chamber: Hardy would be a good choice. If he doesn't, I'm pulling for Edge, just because.
World Heavyweight Championship Elimination Chamber: I do think you're right, but I still want Jericho to win just because. It doesn't have to make sense.

GT hasn't asked me for money for it yet, I think I used it in the RAW review on Monday too. I'd like to try and convince him to to come write for us, as creative as the guy is

Yeah, with his wit and intellect, he certainly would be a welcome addition. Have you tried offering him JT's sexual favors? I hear that works well. 🙂
