  1. “Impact” Review and Thoughts 11/27/08

    Umm….

    Ok….

Oh, forget it. This week is less of a review and more of a rant. I’m quite well aware that no one in a position of power in TNA reads this column on this site. I’m quite well aware that if they did, the things written here would mean absolutely nothing to any of them. I’m also quite well aware that business as usual will continue until the company dies and all in it are forced to seek other employment, mostly to no avail. All the same, on this Thanksgiving holiday, the so-called creative team and the powers-that-be of TNA should be giving most profuse thanks that my access to multiple large-caliber weapons and 55-gallon drums of chloroform are limited by a low-paying career in public education. (If anyone considers that statement to be a legitimate threat of violence, calm down. It’s a literary device, nothing more. That I must point that out is beyond sad.) (more…)

  2. Thoughts on “Impact” 11/20/08

Your Empress of “Impact” is back for another week’s thoughts on TNA. And there was much rejoicing!

We open with the Main Event Mafia and the casket representing Christian Cage and his career. Kurt HHHAngle spews on about how Christian wouldn’t commit to the TNA family, and had been in negotiations with WWE, so he had to be taken out. And Kurt Angle, as well as the rest of the Main Event Mafia, cares so much about TNA as a company since when, precisely? The MEM could actually get over as heels if the faces would seriously call them out on their bovine fertilizer promos, and do so in a way that made sense. Aside from losing matches and constantly being beaten down, the TNA Originals are almost completely muzzled on the mic. At the very least, the one battle the young guys should always win is the battle of words.

Team 3D last night at a TNA Live Event said that their contract had expired with TNA and they’d have an announcement at tonight’s show in the Manhattan Center as to whether or not they were staying with TNA, or if we’d see the Dudley Boyz in WWE.  Well, the announcement has been made, the most decorated tag team in professional wrestling history is staying with TNA.

Well, I decided to do a podcast this week after all.  I’ve also decided that I’m not going to the Vans’ Warped Tour either, mostly because I can’t afford to.  So that means your iMPACT review will be up tomorrow.  This week’s podcast clocks in at just over 40 minutes, it’s some quick thoughts on the past week worth of shows, and a long winded rant about why ECW now officially needs to change it’s name.

Now would be a good time, I suppose, to announce that I’m going to be doing more blog style posts in addition to the review posts – after the power comes back on at my place of employment.  Yes folks, it’s been seven weeks as of today and my job is still to just sit in the dark and tell people to go away.  Hopefully that will get fixed soon and I’ll be able to go back to a normal posting schedule around here.

  5. Beer Money whips everybody – iMPACT 7/17/08

I don’t know if I’ve mentioned it – I’m a huge fan of Robert Roode and James Storm as a tag team.  Which is why I actually enjoyed last night’s episode of iMPACT.  Despite all the crap that happened in the main event at Victory Road, iMPACT focused more on Beer Money than any other performers.  They went around whipping virtually everybody, including wrestlers, security guards, and fans.  Meanwhile, Samoa Joe is letting Booker T keep the TNA Championship belt, while Team 3D and Kurt Angle swear that Sting is on their side.

Results and what will probably be some not-so-in-depth analysis after the jump!

  6. TNA Victory Road results – 7/14/08

I didn’t see the PPV, and I don’t really plan on seeing it, other than maybe checking out the Ultimate X match on YouTube in the future, so it’s not going to be all that in depth.  But here’s the results of the PPV, in case you’re wondering.

  7. A Wilde iMPACT – 7/10/08

I’ll be honest, iMPACT wasn’t overly horrible this week – but I was barely able to pay attention because I had other stuff going on while the show was on.  That said, I’ll try my best to give the show a pretty fair review; after all, we don’t want Disco Inferno whining on his blog about how internet wrestling writers are unfair to the TNA product again, now do we?  Of course, it’s not hard to rip on TNA’s booking decisions – there’s a pay-per-view coming up this Sunday, and last night’s show took most of the focus off of the main event and shifted it elsewhere.  Hell, the World Champion was overshadowed by a returning Sting in his only segment on the show, not to mention that four of the six guys in one of the other huge matches for this Sunday weren’t even on the show.  Yes, Disco – us internet writers are unfair to the TNA product.

Results and not-so-in-depth analysis after the jump.

  8. Nash vs. Beer Money for beer money, 7/3/08

You know, Ring of Honor really has to be excited – two of their top alumni are world champions, with CM Punk winning RAW’s top prize on Monday, and Samoa Joe being the TNA Champion for a while now. Having never seen a full ROH show myself, I still knew about Samoa Joe and CM Punk before their debuts with their respective companies – which means that ROH is doing something right. For Punk, the title win surprised a lot of people – who knew the WWE would ever take a guy from the indies, let him keep his name and gimmick, and eventually make him a world champion? For Joe, we all knew it was going to happen, and it was a feel good moment when he finally captured the gold in TNA, despite the fact they made it blatantly obvious that he wasn’t walking away without the title that night. Of course, while RAW centered around it’s champion this past Monday night, iMPACT centered around Kurt Angle. Sure, Joe was in the main event, but he was only featured on the show once beforehand. How many Kurt Angle sightings were there? We’ll keep track during the review.

The matches, and my reviews of them, after the jump!

  9. I saw this match in WCW – iMPACT, 6/26/08

Well, at least this week, the announcers weren’t surprised when the episode title came true.  In fact, after seeing “Karen’s Return” on the screen, Mike Tenay actually said that tonight, we’ll be seeing the return to the iMPACT Zone of Karen Angle.  There was really nothing interesting to talk about with that story though, other than the fact that next week on the show, Brother Ray is going to look to his chicktionary to set Kurt up on a couple of blind dates.  In Kurt’s words, “no fat chicks.”

While there were a few other things of note, I think they’ll be pretty well covered in the review, so let’s get right to it, after the jump!

  10. When AJ Styles Attacks – iMPACT, 6/19/08

In the interest of full disclosure, I’ve only seen half of last night’s iMPACT.  Not the first half.  Not the second half.  The middle half.  I woke up late again, this time around 9:30, got straight out of bed and tuned into Spike TV.  Then left around 10:30.  So I literally only watched half of iMPACT, and I suppose I should really only opine on what I managed to catch.  However, taking liberties with his wording from the message boards on WorldWrestlingInsanity.com, I’ll be using Fritz Stephey’s real-time iMPACT coverage to form my assessment of the show.  Fritz actually said I could use his column, but then this article wouldn’t be a BWF exclusive like everything else on here, now would it?

Anyways, I’m going to skip the opening rant about stupid things on the show, mostly because I didn’t really watch enough of it to form a decent opinion.  So a quick review, and thoughts on the show, after the jump!
