Tonight, Jack Swagger finally gets his shot at the ECW Champion, Matt Hardy.  Will the rookie from the New Superstar Initiative be successful in his first attempt at WWE gold?  There’s only one way to find out!  Ok, there’s a bunch of different ways to find out, but if you’re not watching the show, I’ve got a good way for you…

ECW on SciFi Review, after the jump!We kick things off with a very short video package on Jack Swagger, followed by the ECW intro and pyro.  Pyro in ECW.  Ugh.

The show gets off to a pretty horrid start as Alicia Fox and DJ Gabriel are dancing in the ring.  I thought I was watching a wrestling show, not “Dancing with the Undercard.”  Paul Burchill and Katie Lea make their way out, and we’re ready for a mixed tag team match.

DJ Gabriel & Alicia Fox def. Paul & Katie Lea Burchill

The Divas kick things off, battling back and forth until they collide heads.  Katie Lea gets the tag and the men come in.  Burchill goes after Gabriel aggressively, probably looking to avenge his loss to the professional Alex Wright impersonator from a few weeks back.  Burchill uses the heavy braces on his knees to his advantage, which the announce team explains are legal because they’re part of Burchill’s ring gear.  Gabriel starts to make a comeback, getting a two off of a back suplex.  All hell breaks loose for about a half second, and in the confusion, Gabriel hits his stupid little twisting elbow from the second rope on Paul Burchill and gets the pin.

We’re then treated to the same Living Colour-sountracked piece on Stone Cold Steve Austin (WHAT?), announcing him as part of the WWE Hall of Fame Class of 2009.

Still to come, Jack Swagger takes on Matt Hardy for the ECW Championship!

<COMMERCIAL BREAK>

The Innovator of Violence cleans up nicely – he’s wearing a suit as he comes to the ring.  He says there’s a lot of buzz about tonight’s title match, but he wanted to take the time to say something.  He’s been debating for a long time about what he’s going to do tonight.  It’s hard for him to express what he’s been feeling.  He’s been honored to be able to entertain the fans for the last 19 years.  People call him the heart and soul of ECW.  It’s because those letters mean the world to him.  His friends, his wife, his kids, they’re with him because of ECW.  If he had to do it all over again, he wouldn’t change a thing.  There comes a point in every person’s life where they have to reflect, and that’s what Tommy’s been doing the past few weeks.  He doesn’t think he’s the same man he used to be.  The competition is younger, stronger, and faster in ECW, and Tommy doesn’t feel like he has what it takes to compete in ECW anymore.  His WWE contract is up on June 6th.  That gives him about 5 months to prove to himself and every one of us that he can still compete here.  The only way he can do that is if he becomes ECW Champion before his contract expires.  He’s been training harder than ever to achieve that goal, because if he don’t, he’s leaving ECW.  It’s the hardest decision he’s ever had to make, but he needs to be able to look at himself with pride and repsect, and this is the only way he can do that.  He will be ECW Champion again.

We then get another video package on Jack Swagger.

<COMMERCIAL BREAK>

Ricky Ortiz is holding Tiffany’s hand, and goes to kiss her when we come back, but they’re interrupted by Hornswoggle, who ruins the moment for them.

I’M THE BOOGEYMAN, AND I’M COMING TO GET YOU!

The Boogeyman def. Sammy Savard

Is there a point of reviewing this?  Savard got no offense in whatsoever.  Boogeyman wins with the pumphandle slam.

After the match, The Boogeyman feeds his opponent, mother bird style.

SmackDown Rebound: Jeff Hardy was involved in an accident.  He’ll be back this Friday.

How does Jeff’s accident effect Matt Hardy?  Let’s ask him!

Matt says that Jeff’s accident hasn’t changed his game plan or distracted him from tonight.  He says that Jack Swagger’s done a lot so far, but he hasn’t yet beaten Matt Hardy.  He’s got one thing going for him that Swagger doesn’t – he’s the ECW Champion!

The match is next!

<COMMERCIAL BREAK>

The “Your Fired” Mr. McMahon return promo airs.

The challenger is out first for the ECW Championship match.  Swagger is undefeated, and looking for his first taste of gold.  The crowd goes wild at the sound of ECW Champion Matt Hardy’s music, and he makes his way out, and we’re set for ECW Title action!

The All-American American Jack Swagger def. Matt Hardy to win the ECW Championship

The lock up to start, trading counter after counter, with Hardy sending Swagger to the canvas with a backdrop, and us to…

<COMMERCIAL BREAK>

Hardy is in control when we come back, scroing a two count.  Swagger catches Hardy trying some kind of move from the apron, clotheslining him to the floor.  Swagger sees that Hardy’s shoulder is hurting, and he goes to work on it.  Swagger gets aggressive, working over Hardy’s arm and slamming his head off of the canvas.  He scores a two count, just before we go to another…

<COMMERCIAL BREAK>

It’s Swagger in control when we come back from this break, but he telegraphs a backdrop, allowing Hardy to kick him in the face and create some separation.  Hardy climbs to the top, but Swagger catches him, crotching him on the top turnbuckle and hitting a superplex.  He covers the fallen Hardy, but only gets a two before going back to work on Hardy’s arm.  Swagger goes for another superplex, but Hardy gets out of it and powerbombs Swagger, who tears off the turnbuckle pad on his way down, gaining a two count.  Hardy sets up for a move, but Swagger reverses, taking him down with a belly to belly suplex.  Hardy battles back going for a bulldog, which is reversed, but Hardy catches a Side Effect for a two count.  Swagger gets a rollup for two, then goes after Hardy’s arm again before hitting a Vader bomb for another two count.  Hardy tries to fight back, and hits a reverse DDT (which Striker calls “Slop Drop-like.”  This is why he won a Slammy for announcing.).  Swagger goes for an Electric Chair Drop, and drops Hardy right on the exposed turnbuckle.  Swagger hits the gutwrench powerbomb, and we’ve got a new ECW Champion!

My thoughts: It’s Swaggertime!  I loved the finish – the removal of the turnbuckle was so subtle, and made to look like it wasn’t supposed to happen, so Swagger dropping Hardy face first into the exposed buckle makes him look like a crafty and opportunistic young superstar, and it gives Hardy an argument to get a rematch a couple weeks from now at the Royal Rumble.  It does, however, mean that we’re going to need to drop the default pic showing Matt and Jeff with their respective title belts from the nights they won them on the BoredWrestlingFan MySpace.

Drowgoddess will be around with Impact Impressions later on in the week, and I think I’ll be around with the SmackDown review on Friday.  Have a good week, folks!
