As the wind whips around outside my house I figure I should take the time and give you the results of this weeks edition of Main Event featuring a 11 man Battle Royal to become #1 contender for the Intercontinental Championship. (more…)
June 24, 1991. The World Wrestling Federation had a house show in Niagara Falls, NY. The card was nothing really to write home about. Bret Hart beat IRS, Ricky Steamboat defeated Haku, Mr. Perfect retained his Intercontinental Championship over The British Bulldog, The Bushwhackers beat the Orient Express, Greg Valentine beat The Barbarian, Big Boss Man and The Rockers defeated The Mountie and The Nasty Boys, and in the main event, Jim Duggan (replacing Hulk Hogan during the steroid scandal) defeated Sgt. Slaughter in a boot camp match. The only thing extraordinary about the show was that in the front row, a nine year old kid was attending his first live professional wrestling card. That kid was me.
Over the course of the next 22 years, I’ve been to countless wrestling shows, mostly WWE. Countless RAWs and SmackDowns, a few house shows, a Night of Champions PPV, four WrestleManias and more, the training is also important and the use of supplements as sr9009 also help boost the performance on these wrestlers. But nothing in the entirety of my wrestling attendance history can compare with this past Monday night at the IZOD Center in East Rutherford, NJ.
Coming off of WrestleMania, and finding out that the advertised Dwayne “The Rock” Johnson was not appearing, the crowd was rowdy to start, booing new WWE Champion John Cena and cheering the appearance of Mark Henry. The “Sexual Chocolate” chants directed at Henry did not go unnoticed. A rematch for the Intercontinental Championship between The Miz and Wade Barrett had the crowd equally amped up, as chants of “Let’s Go Barrett” filled the arena. As then-World Heavyweight Champion Alberto Del Rio took on Jack Swagger and Zeb Colter, a very audible “we want Ziggler” chant erupted, and when Dolph Ziggler cashed in his Money In The Bank contract to defeat Del Rio and become the new World Heavyweight Champion, the place came unglued.
A match between Sheamus and Randy Orton was virtually ignored by the IZOD Center contingent of the WWE Universe, as they were too busy chanting for the Ice Cream Man, Cotton Candy, Randy Savage, X-Pac (who was in a luxury box behind the section next to mine), Steve Austin, JBL, Michael Cole, Jerry Lawler, referee Mike Chioda, ring announcer Justin Roberts, as well as others. When Big Show came out to interrupt the match, a “Thank You Big Show” chant erupted. We then chanted for ourselves, saying “we are awesome.”
The real tipping point for the audience was the introduction of Fandango. The IZOD Center crowd embraced the ballroom dancing Superstar by humming his theme music throughout the rest of the night, including during the main event between John Cena and Mark Henry.
As the show ended, Cena acknowledged our chants, saying that his favorite one of the night was when we told ourselves we are awesome, because it’s true. The show ended with Fandango’s theme being played through the speakers and the raucous crowd still humming it deep into the night.
To all 16,000 of the rest of you in the IZOD Center last night, thank you for helping me have the most fun I’ve had in 22 years attending wrestling events.
Well here’s my contribution to Wrestlemania week and like last year is a look at what Wrestlemania through the eyes of WWE’13 well the Wii version anyway. Hey it’s better than Smackdown vs. RAW 2010 which is what I used last year. Just to let everyone know that the Wii version of this game has no DLC so I’ll only be doing the matches I can with what I’ve got. I will also be doing this on simulate mode so I will have no effect on the outcomes of the matches. So without further ado, lets go: (more…)
The power poll is a weekly poll conducted between a whole bunch of IWC sites, including ours, though we rarely – ok, never – vote anymore. Here’s this week’s results!
1. John Cena (NR)
The win over Brock Lesnar despite an injured arm is enough to catapult John Cena back into the Power Poll and knock Brock out of the number one position.
2. Brock Lesnar (1)
The pain has arrived in the WWE as Lesnar injures Cena and Triple H in back to back nights, but have we seen the last of Lesnar?
3. CM Punk (2)
The WWE Champion once again proves that he’s the best in the world by defeating Chris Jericho at Extreme Rules, but his Over The Limit opponent may have a claim to that title as well.
4. Sheamus (6)
A grueling two out of three falls match at Extreme Rules with Daniel Bryan allowed the Celtic Warrior to prove that his WrestleMania win was no fluke.
5. Daniel Bryan (NR)
Despite not regaining his World Heavyweight Championship at Extreme Rules, will the answer to the question, “Is Daniel Bryan the next WWE Champion” be “YES!?”
6. Kofi Kingston & R-Truth (NR)
While the WWE might be holding off on making the t-shirts after the Air Boom fiasco, Kofi Kingston and R-Truth walked out of RAW with the WWE Tag Team Championships.
7. Randy Orton (8)
After defeating the monster in a falls count anywhere match at Extreme Rules, has Orton gotten rid of his Kane nightmare for good?
8. Cody Rhodes (NR)
It wasn’t the prettiest victory, but Cody Rhodes took back his Intercontinental Championship in a tables match at Extreme Rules to jump back into the Power Poll.
9. Ryback (9)
Two may be better than one, but nine is equal to nine, and that’s where Ryback winds up once again this week.
10. Layla (NR)
Were you expecting somebody else? Layla returns at Extreme Rules to take the Divas Championship from Nikki Bella, then beats BOTH Bellas the next night on RAW, showing the twins the door in the process.
Fallen Out Of The Top 10:
Chris Jericho, Edge, Lord Tensai, Big Show, Nikki Bella
The Power Poll has been taken over by Don Owens of Future-Endeavors.com, and we here at BoredWrestlingFan would like to welcome him here in his first week…
1. Wade Barrett (last week: 1)
The leader of the Nexus proved he can win matches on his own with a victory over R-Truth, and proved he’s in control of The Nexus by forcing John Cena to don the black and yellow t-shirt this past Monday on RAW. (My vote: 1)
2. Randy Orton (3)
The WWE Champion RKO’d anything that moved on Monday Night, but failed to take out John Cena, perhaps his biggest threat this Sunday at Survivor Series. (My vote: 2)
3. Edge (2)
The Rated R Superstar failed to exile David Otunga from The Nexus thanks to interference from Kane. However, Edge had the last laugh when he kidnapped Paul Bearer and caused enough of a distraction for The Big Show to pick up a victory over the World Heavyweight Champion. (My vote: 3)
4. John Cena (6)
After easily defeating Alex Riley in a match, Cena not only avoided being punted in the head by Randy Orton, he managed to hit him with an Attitude Adjustment – followed by one for Wade Barrett. (My vote: N/A)
5. Kane (5)
A loss for the World Heavyweight Champion, even if it was because of a distraction from Edge, leaves him at number 5. (My vote: 4)
6. Daniel Bryan (9)
The American Dragon impressed voters this week by holding off SmackDown’s All American American, Jack Swagger on RAW. (My vote: 9)
7. Alberto Del Rio (7)
His name is Alberto Del Rio, but of course, you already knew that. A victory over Sergeant Slaughter on RAW capped off a good week for Alberto, who defeated Kofi Kingston on SmackDown, was announced by Tito Santana, and was driven into the arena by Chavo Classic. (My vote: 7)
8. Dolph Ziggler (NR)
Apparently, appearing on both shows and winning helps big time in the Power Poll, because Dolph Ziggler retained his Intercontinental Championship against MVP on Friday and put Sexual Chocolate Mark Henry to sleep on Monday. (My vote: N/A)
9. Jeff Hardy (8)
TNA’s World Champion is the only thing that keeps them on this poll sometimes. And here, Jeff Hardy is hanging out near the bottom with his ugly new Immortal Championship. (My vote: 5)
10. Santino (10)
Two weeks running for Santino? Holy crap! Hanging out with The Iron Sheik and defeating the Usos through use of The Cobra(!!!!) will definitely get you votes here on the Power Poll! (My vote: 6)
Dropped Out: The Miz
I also voted for: Ezekiel Jackson (8) and Jim Ross (10)
As if there were any question. The Viper has been topping the Power Poll regularly without the WWE Championship, and now that he’s got the title he’s got to be unstoppable on this thing. His show opening promo with Sheamus was one of very few highlights on this past Monday’s RAW. (My vote: 1)
2. Daniel Bryan (9)
Once again proving that a championship victory means a lot to the members of the Power Poll voting committee, Daniel Bryan jets up the ranks by taking the United States Championship from his former NXT pro The Miz. (My vote: 4)
3. Kane (2)
It’s a rare occasion for any superstar to have The Undertaker’s number, and it finally seems as if Kane may have joined that elite group as he retains the World Heavyweight Championship at Night of Champions. (My vote: 9)
4. The Miz (10)
Even in defeat, The Miz catapults up the Power Poll this week. Mr. Money In The Bank looked strong in his loss at Night of Champions, and his beatdown of Daniel Bryan on RAW certainly helped him regain any lost respect. (My vote: 3)
5. John Cena (3)
I could’ve sworn I voted for Cena this week in the poll, but apparently not. It doesn’t help him as he drops two spots, despite defeating a majority of The Nexus members on RAW. (My vote: NR)
6. Alberto Del Rio (5)
Not much from Alberto Del Rio this week, but he’s doing his job well enough that we haven’t forgotten him. (My vote: 8)
7. Dolph Ziggler (NR)
Retaining his Intercontinental Championship against all odds at Night of Champions, Dolph Ziggler earns enough votes to get himself onto the Power Poll. (My vote: NR)
8. Wade Barrett (NR)
A strong showing at Night of Champions and the prospect of forcing John Cena to join The Nexus helps Wade Barrett return to the Power Poll. Again. (My vote: NR)
9. John Morrison (NR)
How this guy didn’t get on the Power Poll last week is beyond me. Utilizing his Parkour Training in his matches is starting to get the Shaman of Sexy noticed on Monday nights. (My vote: 6)
10. Sheamus (8)
The Fellabration is just about over for Sheamus as he’s dangerously close to dropping off of the list. He’ll get his chance to redeem himself in two weeks as he challenges Randy Orton in a Hell In A Cell.
Dropped out: The Undertaker, Roderick Strong, Chris Jericho
Others voted on my me: Jay Lethal (5), Kurt Angle (7), Drew McIntyre (10)
The Power Poll is a weekly top 10 ranking of wrestlers as voted by members of these wondeful sites: BoredWrestlingFan.com, Future Endeavors, Hit the Ropes, NoVaWPodcast, Oh My WrestleBlog, Online World of Wrestling, PIZZABODYSLAM, Pro Wrestling Ponderings, Project Wonderboy, Ringside Rants, Smark Out Moment, The Superplex, The Wrestling Blog, WrestlingAdikt.com, WrestleRage.com and Wrestlespective. Power Poll 8/11/10: Better late than never edition
1. The Miz (5)
The United States Champion nearly took Evan Bourne’s head off, then convinced John Cena and Bret Hart to tell him that they need him. Mr. Money In The Bank returns to the number one slot on the Power Poll because he’s The Miz, and he’s AWESOME!
2. John Cena (4)
John Cena managed to even out the playing field with The Nexus this week with the return of Edge and Chris Jericho to Team WWE.
3. Rob Van Dam (8)
Mr. Pay Per View proved it in a hell of a match with longtime ECW rival Sabu at HardCORE Justice. Rob Van Dam carries the TNA World Heavyweight Championship back up the rankings with him this week.
4. Sheamus (3)
The Fellabration continues, although the WWE Champion slips to number 4 in this week’s Power Poll after being shown up by Randy Orton. Destroying the NXT Rookies probably prevented him from slipping further.
5. Randy Orton (1)
Meanwhile, the number one contender drops from the number one spot in our poll. Running Sheamus off doesn’t help The Viper stay at the top.
6. Kane (2)
The lowest ranked World Champion this week is the WWE World Heavyweight Champion Kane. Does Rey Mysterio’s accusation that Kane is behind The Undertaker’s attack have anything to do with The Big Red Monster’s dramatic drop this week?
7. Rey Mysterio (7)
Rey Mysterio may or may not be behind the attack on The Undertaker, but one thing’s for sure, he’s behind number 7 for a second straight week here in the Power Poll.
8. Chris Jericho (6)
After a run-in with The Nexus during RAW’s main event, Chris Jericho re-joined Team WWE. He also dropped two spots in the Power Poll. I’d say you’re either Nexus or you’re against us, but I don’t see Wade Barrett and Co. anywhere on this list.
9. Dolph Ziggler (NR)
To further prove that all you have to do to get yourself on the Power Poll is win a championship, Dolph Ziggler won the Intercontinental Championship on Friday Night, now finding himself ranked at number 9.
10. Edge (NR)
Returning to the list this week is another man who re-joined Team WWE after a brawl with The Nexus, The Rated R Superstar, Edge.
Hi and welcome to the first edition of Random Randomness for 2010. I hope everybody had a happy and safe New Years holiday. But even though there was holiday There was till a lot going on in the wrestling world. (more…)
