1. One of the great things about Stampede Wrestling was its inter promotional matches. Many classic encounters took place in Calgary between the Stampede roster and champions from other wrestling territories such as the AWA, NWA, Japan and even other Canadian organizations. Here is a classic encounter out of Stampede Wrestlings rich past thats bound to interest wrestling historians. A young Bret Hart challenges the 4 year world title reign of the legendary AWA heavyweight champion, Nick Bockwinkle. Bret was legitimately injured at this time and, of course, in the early “learning phase” of his career. However that did not stop Bret , the future “best there ever will be” and Nick, who was at the time “the best there was” from putting on a good wrestling match for all the fans. Worth noting is the mention of Davey Boy Smith winning the Stampede light heavyweight title, earlier in that same night.  Worth also noting are the post match interviews by Ed Whalen with Nick Bockwinkle and  “Dr. D” Shultz ,who of course, competed in Stampede for several years. Dr. D also competed in the AWA, NWA, WWF and is most famous for his assault on a reporter who told him wrestling was fake! Enjoy the classic match, check out www.wonderpodonline.com for more PatMan picks and videogame podcasts, and I will see you all back here for another  “ring-a-ding-dong-dandy”, next week!

  2. Wow, what a show. In the last little while Impact has managed to defy logic in many ways, from turning Mr. Anderson from face to heel like he’s a bouncing rubber ball… they’ve tossed the championship back and forth, and built up further the feud between Hulk “Can Barely Walk” Hogan and Heath Farley… and it looks like they’re pushing the greenest guy in the roster, Crimson, straight to the moon.

Sigh… Well at least we should get to see Eric Young fight Scott Baio tonight, right? Sorry, no.

  3. Hot off the heels of the biggest event of the summer, SummerSlam, we’re set for RAW action!  Lots of questions to answer – did Triple H know John Cena’s foot was on the bottom rope?  Does it matter?  Why was the Anonymous RAW GM podium at SummerSlam – is he (or she) back?  And perhaps the biggest question of them all – why did Kevin Nash attack CM Punk?  Is he working with Del Rio?  Is everybody working with Triple H?  Is it all just a big C-O-N-Spiracy?  Will we find out?  Won’t you click the “continue reading” link to find out?

  4. Out in the Heartlands, there is a different kind of Wrestling going on. It isn’t the fancy, staged kind of wrestling you see on National Television. It is the “Old School” kind of Wrestling! It is Wrestling FROM THE HEART.Heartland Wrestlers fight like they have No Tomorrow! Remember “Andre the Great” and “The Sheik” ? These are the Heroes of Yesteryear. This is how we Fight in the Heartland. This is how we FIGHT at MPX! We are Fighters! We are Spartans!

My name is Regrub. I challenge my opponents in rings across Texas! I’m not your glossy kind of TV Wrestler. I’m real! I’m tough! I fight in Death Defying Matches! I’m here to report on some my matches:
Today, I’m writing about: My match from 8/13/11 at MPX Wrestling. The Event was titled “To Be Kings 2011.” We had some amazing wrestlers and matches. I had two matches.

    1st Match:
We had a Tag match: Luchifer (formerly Lucha Lucha) and Regrub vs James Hawke & Seph.
Luchifer and I slaughtered them. Seph started off with a cartwheel driver – pump handled move. (his own version) One of the big reasons this was such a challenging match is because Seph and Lucha were once partners. What was to our benefit was that Lucha was able to distract Seph so I could take advantage and take Seph down. In short, I pinned James Hawke and Destroyed him in Seconds!
Behind the scenes: For those “in the know”, I have to silently admit—there was “cheese” involved! I accidently took out the REF (bumped him). However, we were not without a Good REF for long. Thanks to my good friend – Kyle Valo… he was able to FIND a backup REF — Ryan Gauge. He came in to REF and he officiated well.
MATCH: ReGrub and Luchifer of Team Kyle Won!
    2nd Match:
It was sort of an odd pairing. We had Random Tag Partners. The little guy, PAYDAY, had the 350 pound “WASP” as a partner. My tag team partner was Luchifer again. I was really, really disappointed in WASP. He “supposedly” was a member of my team, Team Kyle. All WASP had to do was lay there so I could make the pin fall. Then, as a form of loyalty and partnership, I could help WASP win the MPX champion until further notice.

But WASP decided to choose his own agenda. He decided he would rather WIN that night… BEAT ME, his Team Member! He was supposed to be a Member of Team Kyle! What a turncoat! He Betrayed our TEAM! Team KYLE.
I tried to help Team Kyle. I Tried to destroy WASP for betraying us.
The Damned REF didn’t cooperate. The REF from match 1 came back and took over for the Good Ref, REF Ryan Guage. That hurt us. He was unbelievably UNFAIR! What a turn of events!
Luchifer and I continued as hard as we could. We tried so hard to destroy WASP. However, WASP managed to tag PAYDAY. I did manage to tag Luchifer before tagging myself back in.
However, in the end, PAYDAY slipped out of my hands (he must have rubbed some type of oil on himself) while WASP made the attack against me – AT THE SAME TIME! Ultimately, PAYDAY pinned me with WASP’s help. Even my friend Luchifer couldn’t help.
MATCH: The Traitor WASP & PAYDAY deceivingly WON!
But don’t worry, REGRUB will find a way to Avenge!!! Heh! Heh! Heh!

  5. Alright.  You guys know I avoid spoilers for RAW like the plague on Monday Nights.  So since I spent the last four hours on Twitter, that certainly wasn’t the case for WWE SummerSlam.  So, that said, I’m going to do this a little differently than normal.  I’m going to watch the PPV knowing what happens, and I’m going to give my thoughts on it.  BTW, I read an article recently that says reading spoilers may actually enhance your enjoyment of watching something because you don’t use so much of your brainpower trying to figure out what’s going on for yourself.  Is it true?  Let’s find out, shall we?

  6. Once again G has invaded your regularly scheduled PatMan Picks Saturday throw back to the Stampede Wrestling article. Yep, and once again I am here to screw it up by referencing a promotion that is not the one from Calgary. This week, we go way back to 1994 and the fallout from WrestleMania X.

  7. Impact had one of their Steal-A-Views on Sunday, and I’m told it sucked… hard, actually. Nothing notable happened outside of Heath Farley lost his title to Kurt Angle in part to Hulk Hogan tossing a steel chair into the ring while the referee was getting a pretzel from the concessions.

  8. I currently write to you, with the entrance music and video of D-Generation X playing in the background. But wait a minute, I hear you ask. You’re not a wrestling fan anymore. Why do you have DX’s music in the background? Simple. I’m not a wrestling fan today. FACT. Also FACT, I’ve recovered my sheer enjoyment for the words War, Is and Raw, although not necessarily in that order.

    Cue the opening
