  2. Thoughts On Smackdown 10/31/08

    By JT

Hello again everyone, I’m back to give you my thoughts on this week’s edition of Smackdown.  Yeah, I know it’s Sunday, but going out Friday and Saturday nights causes me watch it on Sunday mornings.  So you wanna know I what thought?  You don’t, too bad I’m gonna tell you any way:

Undertaker vs. Chavo Guerrero in a Casket Match.  Really?????? For some reason I thought it was supposed to be Big Show, so when I heard Chavo’s name I said WTF????

Jim Ross dresssed as a sailor- LOL funny

Tazz dressed as a soldier- Cool

Miz & Morrison- put them on either ECW, RAW or Smackdown and keep them there.  I’m sick of seeing them every time I turn on WWE programming.

Some lame magic segment featuring Jessis and Festus.  Like I said, it was lame.

Jimmy Wang Yang won a match.  Yay!  So what if it was by DQ, a win is a win!

Kung Fu Naki is lame, nuff said.

Khali Kiss cam is even lamer.

Matt Hardy, Jeff Hardy & Rey Mysterio vs. Kane, Mark Henry & MVP- Good to see some Smackdown guys involved.  This match should be on the big 3 hour RAW tomorrow, not the Smackdown before, because god forbid you have a 6-man tag featuring all Smackdown guys.

Vladimir Kozlov  wants double double e title shot (which he does deserve).  Triple H comes out and makes this a US vs. Russia thing and than I stopped listening because I can’t stand Triple H. (pointless JT fact- Triple H kinda looks like my younger brother, except my younger brother is fat and lazy)

Some John Cena is coming back segment came on, I push the fast forward button on my remote.

    Divas match, fast forward button.

Undertaker wins the Casket match- Shocker  (Undertaker is awesome, nuff said)

Then we find out as the DVR cuts it off (damn DVR) that next week, it’ll be Vladimir Kozlov vs The Undertaker and if Kozlov wins, he gets a title shot.  Sounds good to me.

I know is may sound like I thought the show was horrible, but it wasn’t.  The wrestling part of the show was good.

Well that’s all for now, see you all soon and those in the United States, go out and vote on Tuesday!

Kung Fu Naki & R-Truth def. MVP & Shelton Benjamin when Naki pinned MVP.

The Brian Kendrick def. Super Crazy via pinfall.

Triple H vs. The Undertaker ended in a no contest when The Big Show attacked.

  4. Unforgiven thoughts…

Well, I’m not going to bore you with a results page (but if you must know, Matt Hardy, Ted DiBiase & Cody Rhodes, Shawn Michaels, Triple H, Michelle McCool, and in a surprising twist, Chris Jericho were your winners), I just wanted to get a few things off my chest about WWE Unforgiven 2008.

First of all, congratulations to Matt Hardy – it may be the ECW Championship, but you’ve finally won the big one.  Unfortunately, your brother was just one second away from upstaging you and winning the World Heavyweight Championship, but instead of lunging over to break up Triple H’s pin attempt, he ran over into his own pin attempt on Shelton Benjamin.

Speaking of which, Jeff Hardy bugged the hell out of me last night (and later on in the night, so did Kane).  Jeff was the current WWE Champion at one point, and a couple of times while he was the current champion, he went for a pinfall.  Tell me, what good would it have done for Jeff Hardy, while being the current champion in the match, to pin somebody?  He’s already achieved the only thing you get when you pin somebody, so what is the point of pinning somebody else since a pin doesn’t really benefit you.  Kane, as current World Heavyweight Champion, made a pin attempt on Batista in RAW’s Scramble Match.  It makes no sense to me.

Speaking of the RAW match, it really bothers me that CM Punk, the reigning World Heavyweight Champion, was written out of the match.  If they really wanted Jericho to win, they could have had Kane attack Mysterio backstage, have Jericho replace Mysterio and have Orton come out to the ring to cost Punk the World Championship.  I think it’s complete BS that Punk wasn’t even in the match that he lost the title in.

The beating HBK gave Jericho last night was not as bad as they’re going to make it out to be, though Jericho did come out of the match in pretty rough shape.  You could see how badly he was beaten up as he made his way to the ring for the Championship Scramble.  That match had a pretty good finish, with Jericho stealing the victory without getting in a single move throughout the time he was in the match.

What I’m going to take away from Unforgiven is the fact that The Brian Kendrick is eventually going to win the WWE Championship if he stays clean and doesn’t do anything stupid.  That said, the same statement will apply to Jeff Hardy, albeit much sooner than it will apply to Kendrick.

The Big Show heel turn was piss poor.  Normally the guy arguing with whoever the Undertaker is feuding with will leave before the druids come out.  Show stood there and laughed at Vickie.  Sure, he pretended to be mad at her, but you could tell that he was turning heel the moment the camera got a shot of Show and Guerrero in the ring together.

You guys all know that I’m normally against name changes – especially when the guy has his old name on his tights – but I think it’s a good thing they changed Afa Jr.’s name to Manu.  WWE doesn’t like to use “Junior” at the end of names (Chavo Guerrero, Rey Mysterio, and most recently and most baffling, Ted DiBiase).  People remember Afa, so calling this kid Afa isn’t going to make a lot of sense (again, see DiBiase, Ted).  Calling him Manu and telling everybody that he’s Afa’s son is a good move.

I’m really glad that I probably won’t ever have to see that Chris Jericho/Shawn Michaels video package again.  Hopefully, Shawn’s promo at Unforgiven stating that for Jericho, the worst is still yet to come doesn’t mean that he’s going to find himself in the World Title hunt.

That’s it for me, I’ll see you guys in the morning with a RAW review!

  6. ECW 8/5/08

ECW is getting back on track.  The WWE knows what works and what doesn’t, and they’re straying away from the boring stuff that they had done for a couple of weeks post-draft.

Last night’s episode featured a live edition of The Dirt Sheet, a tag match featuring Ricky Ortiz and Evan Bourne taking on Chavo Guerrero and Bam Neely, and Armando Estrada getting his last chance to earn an ECW contract, taking on Tommy Dreamer.

Results and analysis, after the jump! (more…)
