Finally, a review of an indy show here on BWF. Empire State Wrestling is a promotion local to Western New York that ran shows from August 2002 until November of 2006. Other promotions formed in the meantime, including NWA: Empire and Next Era Wrestling Niagara. Both of those promotions have since closed up shop, and from the ashes, Empire State Wrestling was reborn with their first show in nearly three years, ESW: Overdrive.
Overdrive featured the culmination of a tag team tournament that was originally supposed to be for the Next Era Wrestling Niagara Tag Team Championships, which were renamed and are now the ESW Tag Titles. Yours truly was in attendance…
Holy Crap! We have a Jimmy Wang Yang sighting. Kane totally destroys him, but he got tv time.
Match 2: Yoshi Tatsu vs Shaemus
Shaemus is becoming one of my favorites! This guy is huge and good, which usually doesn’t happen. Sheamus gets the win.
Match 3: Katie Lea vs Nikki Bella…or is it Bre?
The Bella’s use the ole switcharoo and Bre ends up pinning Katie Lea.
Match 4: Dolph Ziggler vs Slam Master J
Dolph gets the win here. Slam Master J would have been great in 2 Cool, but now his gimmick is terrible. He needs to restart the Freebirds. Why did the IC Title match get scrapped for Breaking Point?
Main Event: The Miz and Jack Swagger vs Kofi Kingston and Primo
The Miz gets the pin in this one. The Miz and Swagger should be main eventing PPVs by now.
ECW’s not on until Thursday this week? Now what will people do? How can you survive two days without anything wrestling in your lives? I understand several people have been doing this.
First of all, I’d just like to say that I am sick and tired of hearing about him. Sure, his effect in the history of the world will not go un-noticed, but hearing about him all week has boiled my blood. Although I’m shocked about one thing. I’m surprised I haven’t heard more comparisions with this man.
Anyways, onto slightly more important matters. Is anyone shocked that the Main Event of Night of Champions has become a Triple Threat match between Randy Orton, Triple H and John Cena? I’m not, but Orton will still win. Maybe a H/Cena feud will ensue from this match?
Edge has been injured and is out for what is rumoured to be anywhere between six months to a year. This is bad news considering that the Tag Team of himself and Jericho was just beginning and starting to get it’s wheels in motion, and then this happens. Just what will happen to the Tag Titles now? Will they go to DiBiase and Rhodes, their opponents for Night of Champions? Nobody knows at the moment, not even me. Let’s just hope that this doesn’t send Jericho into obscurity.
Ladies and Gentlemen, I bring to you, the unclickable LINK!
*insert weekly Kurt Angle reference here* If you don’t mention him, then he comes after you at night time. He will watch you in your sleep.
Myra Hindley became my facebook friend. Not only is she my babysitter, but she’s been dead for about seven years now. It just shows you, the dead use facebook.
Has anyone else notices that this column is starting to turn into JT’s column, rather than my own? Well, according to the poll, people read JT’s column more than anyone else’s. However, not even JT would post something like this, or say that how he once had a friend who dated a cannibal. He didnt know she was, nobody did. That was, until the one night she went down on him.
It’s my birthday tomorrow, or Thursday the 9th of the seventh month, for those reading this on a non-Wednesday or past the date in question. Celebrate it whichever you wish. I choose to celebrate it by skidding out on a very icy road, and bending up the wishbone among other things on my car. That is a true story.
What the deuce?! It’s me, tharvey1, again with a review of the latest WWE Superstars. I think this show belongs in the Random Randomness weekly column, but I guess it might be too random for even that. Anywho…off we go!
Match 1: Its a he…Santino! He has a message for Chavo. He says that chavo must be so lonely now that his Aunt Vickie has gone wee wee wee all the way home. HAHAHAHAHAHA! Chavo then makes his way to the ring.
This match is one of the very few matches that makes sense for this show. Santino is very funny in the ring. At one point, Chavo attempted to throw Santino into the corner and Santino did a cartwheel to avoid it. Santino blocks the third of the Three Amigos and turns it into a Jackhammer. He then gets greedy and goes for a frog splash, but catches a boot to the face. Chavo pins Santino 1..2..3.
Match 2: Woo Woo Woo! Zack Ryder against a random jobber (Mike Williams). This must be a nice change of pace for Ryder, as he is usually the random jobber.
I hate those half pants that Ryder wears. Woo Woo Woo….you know it! It’s just a matter of time until he is future endeavored. Okie dokie. Ryder wins with his Zack Attack. His entrance music should be Friends Forever by Zack Attack.
Match 3: The lovely, beautiful Maria is the guest referee between Eve and Layla.
Maria is the most important part of this match. Eve hits a cartwheel backflip splash onto Layla for the victory. That looked really nice too. Other than that, it was your standard diva match. After the match, Maria convinces Eve and Layla to shake hands. OK???
Main Event time: The All-American American Jack Swagger and the Hart Dynasty against Captain Charisma and the Tag Team Champs, The Colons
David Hart Smith starts the match with Carlito. There are alot of quick tags to start the match. I would not mind seeing the Hart Dynasty and the Colons for the Tag Titles…of course we probably won’t see that, as Legacy will most likely win the titles. Carlito hits the backstabber on Tyson Kidd for the win.
This show was actually pretty good and made sense for the stories that are going on at the moment. Very different than the random mess that has been thrown out there in past shows. Remember that RAW is commercial free on Monday. See ya next week!
Wednesday. The only day in the week where there is wrestling on your TV. Monday Nights are RAW, Tuesdays have ECW. Thursdays make an iMPACT. Friday nights have SmackDown! Saturday Nights are ROH and Sundays are for Pay-Per-View. Where does that leave Wednesday? Luckily, at BoredWrestlingFan, yours truly has completed your weekly wrestling fix.
WWE Backlash
Backlash has been and gone. Matches were won and lost, and i didnt do any predictions. So, let’s just examine the happenings.
Christian def. Jack Swagger to become new ECW Champion.
Well, well. He finally wins the title. I knew that sooner or later he was gonna win. But the big question remains. Does this count as a major title win? I know that the ECW Championship counts as a major championship, but I, along with several other people, doesnt see the ECW Championship as nothing more than a re badged European Championship. Is this the stepping stone to Main Event level for Christian? My guess is no, as he needs to step up an extra couple of rungs up the ladder before he makes true Main Event status.
Chris Jericho def. Ricky Steamboat
Nice to see Jericho got the win. A loss here would have destroyed the small amount of credibility he has left. Also, I hope this is the end for Steamboat. He may still be able to go a little, but that doesnt mean that he should go a little. The novelty has worn off for Steamboat. As for Jericho, hopefull SmackDown! pushes him back up to Championship status, although seeing him stare down the Intercontinental Champion during the Draft coverage a few weeks back, spells his future.
Kane def. CM Punk
The relevance of this match? Filler. Thats all it was. they made up some thing about Kane being upset about not winning Money in the Bank at WrestleMania, but that did a rather lame job of hiding the fact that this match was only put there to fill up the card. Sadly, this match got in and yet the US Title, the Tag Titles, the IC Title and both Womens Titles didnt get defended. Just goes to show you how much the WWE think people want to see CM Punk. Even if the matches don’t mean anything.
Jeff Hardy def. Matt Hardy
This match was an I Quit match. If I am forced to sit down, and watch this Vampiro ripoff anymore, then I will quit. I do not understand how this guy is popular. Do they feel sorry for him because his house burned down? Do they feel sorry for him because he thought the name of this PPV was ‘Cracklash’? But seriously, I have no idea how Jeff Hardy got pushed, whereas Matt, the better of the two Hardys, didnt. Jeff became WWE Champion. He beat Edge for the belt, and was challenging former champion Triple H all the way. Yes, thats right, Triple H. The same Triple H whom Jeff Hardy beat for the Intercontinental Title back in 2001. Whereas Matt Hardy, well he beat Chavo Guerrero for the ECW Championship. The same ECW Championship that I referred to as a re badged European Championship earlier. I wonder what will happen now that they are on different shows? My guess is, Matt Hardy will do nothing, whilst Jeff challenges for the World Title.
Khali Kiss Cam
Joke. Santina loves JR and Khali beats up Beth Phoenix. What has Beth Phoenix done to piss someone off? She must’ve done something real bad to be invovled in this Santina/Santino, To-may-to/To-ma-to let’s call the whole thing off nonsense. Thats what they should do with Santina Marella. Call the whole thing off. it’s becoming more ridiculous by the second. Nice way to destroy Beth’s career.
Legacy def. Trips, Shane O and PenisHead, meaning Randy Orton is new WWE Champion
Oh my god, the all mighty Triple H got beaten. What ever will we do? I know, send Penishead after him. He’ll save the day! Newsflash. Deacon Dave is inept. The only thing he’s good for is holding collection boxes. On the other hand, having Randy as champ is a big PLUS. Now, why couldnt they have Orton win at ‘Mania? Surely that would’ve been the best time to have him win the belt.
Edge def. John Cena to become World Heavyweight Champion
Edge win the belt, with a very big assist from the Big Show. Let me make this loud and clear. John Cena is NOT Hulk Hogan. John Cena is NOT some sort of being with superhuman powers. John Cena is NOT a member of the X-Men. Is Edge not good enough to beat John Cena on his own? Does the major title on SmackDown!, have to change more than Vickie Guerrero does love interests? However Ladies and Gentlemen and this is where they really grind my gears. John Cena, appeared on RAW. Thats right, just one day after being thrown into a spotlight, John Cena appears the next night. Hulk Hogan sold more in his career, than John Cena ever will. I hope Edge holds the belt for awhile, unless he loses it to Jericho. Anyone else, and it will be a travesty.
TNA
Have I missed anything? Oh yeah, they have a PPV coming up. It’s like they have one every month or something. Anyways, the up-coming PPV is Sacrifice and Mick Foley will defend his belt against … well it could be a list of people. From Bug-Eyed Lashley, to BrokeNeck Angle, to Stung, to Mike Tyson’s lookalike. The list goes on and on. Also, theres a Tag Team Tournament to determine the #1 contender for the gold. The winner also receives a trophy and $100,000. If Beer Money doesnt win the tournament, then their belts back, then once again, it’s a travesty.
The Rest
Just some short little tidbits here. Whomever entered the competition won. You all win jack, and shit. Thank you for entering.
Finally, don’t forget my review of the WWE Vintage Collection will be up at WorldWrestlingInsanity.com inside the next 24 hours, so go check that out. Also, check out the various videos and toilet breaks throughout the review.
I am the REAL Legend Killer, reminding you to stay away from fat chicks, as you might end up with swine flu.
I’ve been sitting on my ass the last four hours and haven’t even thought about Armageddon until just now. There’s less than 8 minutes until the show, so I’m going to run through the card real quick and give you my predictions!
Jericho vs. Cena – World Title – Cena
Edge vs. Jeff Hardy vs. HHH – Edge.
CM Punk vs. Rey Mysterio – Punk. I was going to say Mysterio, but after Punk dropped the tag titles last night, it seems more logical that he’d be in line for the Intercontinental Championship.
Matt Hardy vs. Vladimir Kozlov – Kozlov
Batista vs. Randy Orton – Orton
Michelle McCool, Maria, Mickie James & Kelly Kelly vs. Victoria, Natalya, Jillian & Maryse – I didn’t even know about this one, but I’m going to say Victoria’s team.
Finlay vs. Mark Henry – Whoever wins, hopefully this will be the end of it. Which would indicate that Finlay will probably win.
Enjoy Armageddon, I’ll be around tomorrow with a review!
Yours truly wound up sleeping through TNA iMPACT last night. I think I’ve DVRed it, but I haven’t had a chance to watch it yet. That said, I didn’t want you guys to go without your TNA iMPACT stuff, so I’ve borrowed the results from ProWrestling.net
I love it when we get decent world title matches on free TV (though, technically, since I’m paying $105 a month for cable, is it really free?). To be honest, Kaz vs. Samoa Joe was a pretty solid match. Unfortunately for them, they took a back seat to the continuing saga of Kurt and Karen Angle. It used to be funny when I’d type “Hey look, it’s Kurt Angle” on the message boards at World Wrestling Insanity every time he’d be on screen. Hell, at least he was champion back then. Now that Samoa Joe is champion, after beating Kurt Angle for the title, mind you, Joe should be the centerpiece of the program, not curtain jerking while defending his TNA World Title. Hell, the TNA title match took a backseat to LAX vs. James Storm and Robert Roode for the TNA Tag Titles last night. It’s a sad state of affairs to think that the lasting impression from last night’s program isn’t going to be Joe holding up his championship after a hard fought title defense, but instead, the image of Karen Angle, lying in pain on the mat after an attack by Awesome Kong.
Ranting and raving about the rest of the show, after the jump. (more…)
