Another week, another Impact.
MPX is really working hard on expanding their product and brand. Their crowd is so packed. What I compliment them for is building their product without having to bring the big names in. I knew this was a really stacked card when SHIMMER superstar Athena is taking tickets. (No ego there at all)
The before-the-bell match didn’t happen. We had a really nice video package at the beginning. It reminded me of a UFC event. We have a 3-man booth with Code Greyson, James Hawke and Kody Kox. Usually I skip over this part. But I was VERY impressed with Code. Scott Murdoch came out first. You know the joke about the 800-pound gorilla? How he sits wherever he wants to? Well, that 800 pound gorilla checks with Scott Murdoch for where he wants to sit. He’s been working a lot on his physique. The gut he had is almost gone. I think he is becoming a good fit for the Midwest scene. He’d make a great fit against Jock Samson or Alexander Rudolph or The Cutter Brothers. Instead of Haiden, he got Nigel Rabid and the greatest Fu Manchu to ever exist. Haiden wasn’t even there yet. Then Mace’s music hit.
First match: Mace Malone vs. Li Fang for the Prospects Championship
I like the long-term booking they showed, but they spoiled this match the moment Mace and Murdoch faced off. They had a really nice intensity facing each other. Mace is so jacked and has such a great look. The end had a lot of good near-falls. Even though I knew what the outcome was going to be, I found myself doubting. Mace did his finisher and put out Li for the count.
Winner and new champion: Mace
Li sold the finisher. Then Mace finished him off by looking for a chair and then pounding the stuffing out of the chair over Li’s face. The entire crowd cringed. Lance Hoyt was introduced to a really nice pop. He talked about how great it was to be back there and then we was interrupted by Tad Wylde. Ben came out talking about how he was supposed to be on the card but was bumped off because of Hoyt. My favorite part was Ben telling Hoyt that Ben was the best big man in MPX. Hoyt laughed and then Tadlock got in Ben Wylde’s face. It was a brilliant promo. The Ruff Paraphrase is that he’d been trying to hold Ben back and make him try to do what’s right but now after he saw all this disrespect, he was sure that Ben was right. It was a glorious heel turn. As the two beat him down, out came “Irresistible” Eric McDonald to what scares me to say is possibly the pop of the night. GM Kate Carroll channeled her inner Teddy Long as only she could. She made a tag match.
Second match: Tad Wylde vs. Lance Hoyt & Eric McDonald
As the match began, Hoyt gave us a name for his team-the Creepy Killers, which drew out a nice chant from the crowd. First of all, I love how Lance Hoyt is able to put aside his ego and be in the second match. When he comes in, he is just happy to help the company in any way he can. I love the turn from Tadlock. They’d been teasing a Tad vs. Wylde feud for a few months now. I had a hard time concentrating on this match. You see, I remember Ben Wylde from the first time I saw him wrestle James Hawke almost 4 and a half years ago in a sweaty August gym. There’s a lot of the MPX originals that I’ve watched grow into real wrestlers. Tonight was the night I really felt like Ben belonged in there with the big boys. It was just a prime example of how far he’s come. Then Lance Hoyt gave a low-blow and there was a DQ. He asked for the match to be restarted and Kate did. The match was ended when McDonald rubbed Tadlock’s face on his chest hair. (And for the record, John Cena would have still kicked out at 2.)
Winner: Creepy Killers
BC vs. Jerome Daniels in a hair vs. career match
Before the match, they announced that instead of Daniels’ career, it was going to be he was banned from MPX for a year. I thought for a moment that BC might actually win there. I know both of these guys are comic book fans, so when the bell rang, they ran at each other and had a collision reminiscent of The Thing vs. The Hulk. There was some spit that went on. For a while there was a story that BC was trying to get Jerome to dq himself. There was some spitting and BC threw him out trying to go for a countout. Some idiotic fan yelled out, “You’re not a real man until you do an Iron Claw.” So then the fans started an “Iron Claw” chant. Jerome did one to one of the pops of the night. There was a ref bump, and I thought I was watching a Jeff Jarrett title match. Thankfully the ref recovered and Jerome made him tap out to his armbreaker.
Winner: BC
BC really needed a haircut. As they were cutting his hair, they went to intermission and gave fans the chance to get their picture with him. It was fun. They made a huge announcement. Paul London will be at the next show. Not gonna lie-I might cry meeting him.
Fourth match: Steven Kirby w/Nigel Rabid & Kevin Cross vs. Frankie Fisher in a Taped Fist match
This was a slugfest. Two guys who hated each other in a taped-fist match. This was no beautiful technical match. This was brutal, painful and dirty. Then it became bloody. Poor ring announcer Keith Roberts ended up with a bloody shirt somehow. Nigel kept the fans engaged by his jaw-jacking and interference. There was some really great drama with the near-falls at the end. Kirby took the win in Chapter 1 in what should be a long, devastating feud.
Winner: Kirby
Kristopher Haiden came out to join the post-match beatdown which was followed by Scott Murdoch coming out and the title match was on now.
Fifth match: Scott Murdoch (c) vs. Kristopher Haiden
This was another brutal slugfest. I also liked the timing of the match. It gave it an old ECW feel. Haiden had a very good lariat, one of my favorites. New champion Mace teased that he was about to cash in his Prospects Championship. Before he could, Zero the Antihero and Carlos Esquivel came out to attack him. Yea!!! Zero and Carlos have something to do other than get killed. Murdoch beat Haiden decisively.
Winner: Murdoch
Haiden played his role well. He made Murdoch look like a strong champion.
Main event: Matt Palmer vs. Gregory James in a Last Man Standing Match
These two had already torn down several houses down with their matches. I would like to say I kept copious notes on this match. But there’s something about when these two wrestle, I put down my notebook and become a fan. So I may not get all the details right or remember all the incredible moments. What I can say is that it is perhaps one of the best matches I’ve ever seen live, if not the best. I’ve seen some good ones (most coincidentally had either Matt or Greg in them), but I think this one might take the cake. Every time they did a spot, it looked like it was it. There were chairs. Lots of chairs. There were trash can lids. There was a table that drew a “Holy s***!” chant out of the fans (which was a reminder why I don’t take my daughter). And then when you think there wasn’t any more plunder that could be used, they brought out cinder blocks.
Winner: Palmer
All in all… What an excellent show. Tonight was a night where they showed a lot of maturity. The main event was something that bordered on perfection. Murdoch looks like a very strong champion going into a feud with a very strong challenger in Mace. Chapter 1 of Kirby-Fisher was a nice start.
Varying degrees of success have been reported by friends of mine attempting to access the WWE Network. BWF Radio PPV panelist Gary Barnidge of the Cleveland Browns reports that he couldn’t sign up at all. Our own JT had difficulty registering as well and can’t seem to access any of the content. The same holds true for our buddy Cassidy from Cheap-Heat as well as my cousin Steve. My good friend Scott chimed in to report that he was having no issues whatsoever accessing the WWE Network via his PS4, though the same can’t be said for me with my Xbox 360. Hell, as I type this, I’m having difficulty trying to access a video on the service via my tablet. So, a rough launch for the WWE Network. I did, however, catch the RAW pre-show with Alex Riley, Booker T, and Ric Flair, so at least the live streaming works. But we’re not here to talk about the issues with the WWE Network, we’re here to talk about Monday Night RAW!
I did this a little differently tonight. I actually decided to drive to work, so I managed to catch the first couple hours of the show. But there are things I want to go over, so I’m going to watch some of it again as I review. So, let’s go!
I don’t wanna do this, I wanna watch the WWE Network. I know it works with Internet Explorer on PCs! Oh well.
Welcome on and all to the 2nd edition of Creative Control coming to you Live from GOLD MEDAL COUNTRY! On this week’s edition of Creative Control we will look at how I would book Wrestlemania XXX. When we last left off how I would book Elimination Chamber, Let’s see how Wrestlemania is going to shape up. Each paragraph will have the build up to a match on Wrestlemania and the basic storyline, and on next weeks’s article where I will fantasy book Extreme Rules ! We will view the results of Wrestlemania and then go into the build of Extreme Rules !
At the start of the Feb 24th RAW, The Authority makes the way to the ring. HHH grabs the mic and announces that this is a historic day for the WWE. This is the day that the WWE Network has officially launched. He informs the fans that despite everything they know whats best for business and tonight they will prove that. Daniel Bryan’s music hits and he is not alone. He is followed by Dolph Ziggler, Kofi Kingston , Tyson Kidd , and R-Truth they all have chairs in hand. Daniel Bryan and Co. get into the ring and take a seat with the chairs. HHH asks them what they are doing he has a historic show to start. Daniel Bryan grabs the mic and says he is done being kicked around done with the glass ceiling hanging above him. He says he was screwed again over the WWE Title tonight and he will deal with Batista when the time comes. But first him and his most trusted friends in the back tonight have his back. They are having a sit-in until they get some answers. HHH Tells Bryan to leave the ring now or he would be suspended. Daniel Bryan starts a NO chant with the crowd and Vince McMahon’s music hits. He comes out and demands to know what was going on here. HHH again tells Vince he has this all under control and demands Bryan leave the ring so he can get the show on. Daniel Bryan again chants NO! Vince says that he is proud of Bryan for standing up for himself and what will make him leave the ring so the show can continue. Bryan says he only wants one thing and thats a WWE title shot at Wrestlemania. Vince accepts much to HHH’s dismay. The crowd chants YES YES YES as Bryan asks where’s Batista. HHH informs Bryan that he gave Batista the night off and he will have to deal with him next week. HHH then inofrms Ziggler, Kingston,Kidd and R-Truth he will deal with them later. On the March 3rd Raw, Batista comes out to explain his actions. He goes on to say for 4 years all he heard was “When you coming back Batista” “Batista the WWE needs you” “Batista we miss you your awesome” So he comes back only to be booed only to play 2nd fiddle to Daniel Bryan. He says the fans lied to him and they don’t care about him they only care for Bryan. That’s why he did what he did and he is damn proud of himself.
WWE WORLD HEAVYWEIGHT CHAMPIONSHIP- Randy Orton (c) Vs Batista Vs Daniel Bryan.
On the March 3rd RAW. Sheamus gets a US title shot against Dean Ambrose. After again some miscalculation within the Shield, Sheamus picks up the victory and is the new US Champion. On the March 10th Raw during a tag match with Big E against the New Age Outlaws. Sheamus turns on Big E with the brouge kick turning him heel. At Wrestlemania its announced that The US title will be merged with the IC title. During the weeks going into Mania former US champions (WCW Past) and IC Champions give predictions on who will win the belt.

Rusev comes out demanding a bigger challenge and that no one in the WWE can match his power and strength. Big Show comes out and challenges Rusev to a match at Wrestlemania.
Alexander Rusev Vs The Big Show.
On the Feb 24th Raw we catch Cody Rhodes and Goldust arguing backstage. Ric Flair comes in and asks them to stop saying he has watched both of them grow up and they need to stop. They were great Tag Team Champions and they need to work out any issues they have. Ric says that go for it one more time go after the Titles and if they lose they can part ways and if they win bring some prestige back to those titles. Its announced on the same show that to get into a Wrestlemania match with The New Age Outlaws we will have 3 tag team matches in the next few weeks. Tonight the Rhodes Brothers will battle The Real Americans. On Smackdown the Uso’s will take on Seth Rollins and Roman Reigns, and on the March 3rd Raw The Wyatt Family (Rowan Harper) will take on the Mysterio/Sin Cara. He is then about to announce Brock Lesnar coming out instead he get Ryback and Axel they want to know what the deal is. They says since Lesnar has gotten back that Paul Heyman has completely ignored them and he isnt returning his calls. Heyman claims he has been busy and with Axels back turned Lesnar runs out and destroys Axel giving him a F5 to the outside. He then stares down Ryback and Ryback backs off and helps Axel to the back. Paul Heyman announces now lets get down to business. Heyman says since Lesnar returned one man has been on his radar and he has let him get away with embarrassing him years ago. We see images of the Undertaker-Lesnar conformation at UFC 121. Heyman goes on to explain that Undertaker stepped into Lesnarès territory back then and for nearly 4 years Lesnar let Undertaker get away with it until now. Heyman says what better way then to destroy Undertaker is take away something that is the most important to him his Streak.

AJ Lee comes out and claims she has beaten everybody in the Diva division and she is unbeatable and the greatest Diva to ever step foot in the ring. Naomi returns from her eye injury (with a patch) and challenges AJ Lee for the Divas title at Mania.
Divas Title Match- AJ Lee Vs Naomi
After losing his US title match and Reigns and Rollins lose the chance at the Tag Titles we see the gradule dents in the Shield. Ambronse claims that Reigns has gotten to big of a head after Royal Rumble and he was nothing more then the muscle in The shield. Ambrose claims he was always the real star in the group he can talk he can wrestle he can do it all. Rollins not to happy with this claims he can Wrestle just as well as Ambrose and he might even be a better wrestler. Its just that Ambrose begs for attention because he deep down he is a sad man. The Shield officially break up.
Dean Ambrose Vs Roman Reigns Vs Seth Rollins
Still furious over the fact that Ziggler,Kingston,R-Truth and Tyson Kidd embarrassed him in front of Vince on the biggest night in WWE history he says that they they think they are so great because `They Stoop Up for Bryan` He says while they think that The Authority is bad and destroying the WWE he disagrees and he actually has his own 4 who don`t agree with there ways of getting attention. The Miz, Christian, Kane and Del Rio agree that The Authority is doing just fine with a promise if they deal with Ziggler and Co. that anything the Authority can `assist“ them in they will be more then happy to. After losing a chance at the tag titles against the Rhodes Brothers we see Zeb Coulter call out Cesaro and start to berate him. Coulter yells at Cesaro saying he took a `Swiss Alien`and gave him a chance. He slaps Cesaro and Cesaro then knocks down Coulter and is about to put him in the Cesaro swing only to be attacked behind from behind. Cesaro joins along with Ziggler and Co against the Authoritys group. At Wrestlemania its announced that a 5 on 5 match will take place.

Well, it’s official. Bieber is now the US’s problem. Good. Now people who follow the show on Sunday know that we talk a bit of hockey, and myself and the US gents have a rivalry. Granted, the Canadians beat the US for Gold in women’s hockey, and ousted the men. But both games were great and close. Also, by the time Sunday rolls around, I’ll still be watching the game likely when the show starts. So I’ll smell yeah a little later on it. Let’s get through Smackdown and off to Sunday’s PPV, shall we?

Hopping time…
None of what happens in TNA will matter seeing how it’s Elimination Chamber week but screw it, my professionalism won’t let me half ass this.
