Welcome everybody to a shorter than usual Random Randomness mostly because I haven’t seen Smackdown yet and probably won’t until Monday. Well without further ado, here we go: (more…)

  2. WWE RAW & ECW on Sci Fi thoughts

Well, like I said yesterday, folks, I was under the weather.  I didn’t tell it to get up and move, like Drowgoddess suggested – it did that on it’s own.  Either that or it saw her comment and decided it didn’t want a Texas sized ass kicking.

Hey, speaking of Texas sized ass kickings, Shawn Michaels and The Undertaker will wrestle at WrestleMania!  They kicked off Monday Night RAW with a killer back and forth promo – probably one of the best promos in years in the WWE.  Undertaker was going to tell HBK to rest in peace, but HBK interrupted, saying he’d rest comfortably knowing that he ended the streak.

More of RAW, and all of ECW, after the jump! (more…)

  5. SmackDown – 2/27/09

Alright, I watched SmackDown last night, and don’t feel like watching it over again to review it, so we’re gonna wing it – like this week’s ECW review, but better.  I know, I know, you’re all wondering, “Why didn’t you just review the show while you were watching it?”  Well, I’ll tell you why.  Because I’m f#$%ing lazy, that’s why!

So, put the blue ropes on the ring, paint your face up all wacky, steal a Heavyweight Championship, and job to Kung Fu Naki, it’s time for SmackDown!

After the jump, of course! (more…)

  6. Oversleeping on Tuesday: ECW 2/24/09

Ok, ok, I technically didn’t oversleep on Tuesday.  I just passed on watching ECW to cheer on my beloved Buffalo Sabres as they took on the Anaheim Ducks (and you have no idea how hard it was for me to not just type “The Mighty Ducks of Anaheim”).  Sadly, the Sabres lost 3-2.  The plan was to watch ECW at some point today, but I went out early and fell asleep when I came home.  I didn’t wake up until 10 minutes after I normally leave for work, so I still haven’t seen the show.  So, here I am with results in hand.   I’m not going to give a lot of insight to this episode, but only because I haven’t seen it and the results aren’t very detailed that I happen to have.

Mark Henry def. DJ Gabriel – Thanks for coming, DJ.  Now get your Alex Wright wannabe ass back to FCW.

Tyson Kidd def. Some Local Jobber – The dungeon has made many a championship wrestler.  Beating guys who aren’t important enough to mention their names more than once isn’t exactly how you go about winning championships, though.

Tommy Dreamer def. Paul Burchill – If this were the real ECW, this match would probably be a main event, probably would’ve lasted longer, Tommy would’ve still gotten the win, but with the assist from a telephone and some chicken wire (Tommy was like the MacGuyver of pro wrestling) instead of The Boogeyman, and Katie Lea probably would have eaten a piledriver.

Jack Swagger def. Christian to retain the ECW Championship – Swagger and Christian have each defeated each other in singles competition, Swagger getting his win when the title was on the line.  Hmm.  I wonder what they’re going to do with the ECW Championship at WrestleMania 25?

    Thanks for reading!

  7. I shouldn’t oversleep on Tuesdays

I overslept last night, and decided “ah, screw it, I’ll just fake my way through an ECW on SciFi review this week.”  I really wish I hadn’t, because I just can’t do it justice, given that this happened:

That’s right, kiddies, the Instant Classic, Captain Charisma, Christian has returned to the WWE!  While I’m disappointed that he’s a face on ECW rather than a heel on SmackDown, it’s still exciting to watch!

I also missed The Miz defeating Tommy Dreamer, Tyson Kidd, who trained in the Hart family Dungeon, debuted with Natalya by his side and defeated local boy Bao Nguyen, and Christian defeating Jack Swagger with help from Finlay and Hornswoggle.

From now on, I run all my errands on Wednesdays so I can get to sleep earlier and wake up in time for ECW!

  8. Why I hate: No Way Out

Note:  I was planning on writing about all of the Pay Per View events on the WWE Calendar outside of the “Big Four,” but it would have been way too long.  As such, I’m splitting it up in parts, which will be published every Sunday at noon (except for part three, which will be up next Wednesday) here on BoredWrestlingFan.com!

I’ve been a wrestling fan for as long as I can remember.  The first promo I ever remember seeing was “Mean Gene” Okerlund interviewing Hulk Hogan about his upcoming steel cage match with King Kong Bundy a few weeks before WrestleMania 2.  The period where I started watching the shows religiously was sometime after WrestleMania IV.  I know this, because I remember all the hype about SummerSlam ’88 on Pay Per View.  Back in 1988, the WWF, as it was known at the time, only held three Pay Per View events – WrestleMania IV, SummerSlam ’88, and the second annual Survivor Series.  The following year, they added the Royal Rumble as a Pay Per View event (the first Royal Rumble event, featuring 20 competitors instead of 30, aired on the USA Network in January of 1998.), and we had “The Big Four” WWF Pay Per Views.  Save for the “Tuesday in Texas” event in 1991, these remained the only PPV events the WWF held until the addition of “King of the Ring”  in 1993.

In 1995, when the competition from WCW started to heat up following the advent of WCW Monday Nitro, both companies started to air several more Pay Per View events.  Unlike WCW, who had full blown – and individually named – Pay Per Views every month, the WWF put on two hour events at a discounted price in the months outside of the five main PPVs, called “In Your House.”  The “In Your House” PPVs eventually grew into three hour, full priced shows before finally evolving into the monthly events we know today.

With WWE’s purchase of WCW and ECW in 2001, they’ve experimented with holding up to two Pay Per View events per month, which didn’t work out too well, as we’re down now to 14 such events each year, the only two-PPV months being June with the newly re-branded Extreme Rules (Formerly One Night Stand) and Night of Champions, and November with Cyber Sunday and Survivor Series.  Still, I feel as though I’m already paying too much for cable without adding an extra $40 every month for Pay Per View events.

In this series, I intend to convey my reasons why WWE – and by proxy, TNA – needs to cut back on the number of Pay Per Views a year, and do so on a per-event basis.  Safe from cuts will be the “Big Four” events – Royal Rumble, WrestleMania, SummerSlam, and Survivor Series.

I present my arguments against No Way Out, after the jump! (more…)
