  1. ECW on Sci Fi results 9/16/08

Due to circumstances beyond our control, I wasn’t able to write up an ECW review for last night.  Here are the results, courtesy of WWE.com:

WWE Universe: Don’t forget, in two weeks, ECW on Sci Fi will begin airing at 9/8 CT on Sept. 30!

NASHVILLE, Tenn. – Both ECW Champion Matt Hardy and Mark Henry were victorious on ECW on Sci Fi on Tuesday night, as the rivals are just weeks away from their ECW Title match at No Mercy.

Henry sought retribution after last week’s ECW when Hornswoggle caused a distraction, leading Finlay to hit Henry with a shillelagh. With WWE Hall of Famer Tony Atlas in his corner, Henry got his revenge, causing Finlay’s luck to run out. Henry manhandled the Belfast Brawler throughout the match, but once The World Strongest Man cornered Hornswoggle, Finlay attacked Henry with the shillelagh for the second week in a row, an act unseen by the referee. While suffering through the pain inflicted on his arm by the shillelagh, Henry still dominated, pinning Finlay after a World’s Strongest Slam. Despite the win on ECW, The World’s Strongest Man has one thing on his mind – winning back the ECW Title he lost, without being pinned, during the ECW Championship Scramble Match at Unforgiven just nine days ago.

Also on ECW, Matt Hardy proved once again why he’s the ECW Champion when he pinned Mike Knox for the second week in a row. Hardy delivered another Twist of Fate to the devious Knox, who wore the battle wounds on his face from last week’s tag team defeat by the ECW Champ. Hardy, who has proclaimed he wants to be the greatest ECW Champion of all time, is looking stronger than ever with another victory under his ECW Title.

The rivalry between Evan “Air” Bourne and John Morrison & The Miz escalated to a new level this week when Bourne was accompanied to the ring by a fellow member of ECW General Manager Theodore Long’s New Superstar Initiative, Ricky Ortiz. Unlike last week, when The Miz distracted Bourne allowing Morrison to get the win, Bourne was victorious over The Miz this week in singles action. Morrison interfered by grabbing Bourne, prompting Ortiz to attack the Shaman of Sexy, distracting The Miz long enough for Bourne to roll up the self-proclaimed “Chick Magnet” for the victory.

Finally, “The All-American American” Jack Swagger was successful once again, this time defeating Chase Stevens. After winning his second match on ECW with a Red, White and Blue Thunder Bomb, smiling Swagger is looking like another fine Extreme competitor to come out of the ECW New Superstar Initiative.

Tonight on SmackDown, it’s The Brian Kendrick, MVP, Shelton Benjamin, and Jeff Hardy in a Fatal Four Way to determine the number one contender for the WWE Championship at No Mercy.  Also, what possessed The Big Show to take out The Undertaker at Unforgiven?

You know how it works by now, quick results up here and detailed results after the jump.  BTW, I’m sorry this is starting late, somebody called me at 8PM.  Who the hell calls a wrestling fan on Friday night at 8PM?

    Anyways, here goes:

Triple H says that Jeff Hardy will never win the big one.

Brie Bella, Maria & Michelle def Victoria, Natalya & Maryse

R-Truth def. Chavo Guerrero via DQ

Jesse & Festus wrapped Kenny Dykstra in duct tape and wheeled him out of the arena on a dolly.

Big Show says he beat up The Undertaker for not following the rules.  Seriously, that’s what he said.

Vladimir Kozlov def. Funaki & Scotty Goldman

Carlito & Primo Colon def. Hawkins & Ryder

Jeff Hardy def. The Brian Kendrick, MVP, & Shelton Benjamin

  3. The Matt Hardy era begins! ECW 9/9/08

What will the new ECW Champion, Matt Hardy have to say now that he’s finally achieved his firs World Championship?  Speaking of which, what kind of mood does former champion Mark Henry have to be in after losing the title without being pinned this past Sunday at Unforgiven?  The answer to these questions and more, on ECW!

  4. Unforgiven thoughts…

Well, I’m not going to bore you with a results page (but if you must know, Matt Hardy, Ted DiBiase & Cody Rhodes, Shawn Michaels, Triple H, Michelle McCool, and in a surprising twist, Chris Jericho were your winners), I just wanted to get a few things off my chest about WWE Unforgiven 2008.

First of all, congratulations to Matt Hardy – it may be the ECW Championship, but you’ve finally won the big one.  Unfortunately, your brother was just one second away from upstaging you and winning the World Heavyweight Championship, but instead of lunging over to break up Triple H’s pin attempt, he ran over into his own pin attempt on Shelton Benjamin.

Speaking of which, Jeff Hardy bugged the hell out of me last night (and later on in the night, so did Kane).  Jeff was the current WWE Champion at one point, and a couple of times while he was the current champion, he went for a pinfall.  Tell me, what good would it have done for Jeff Hardy, while being the current champion in the match, to pin somebody?  He’s already achieved the only thing you get when you pin somebody, so what is the point of pinning somebody else since a pin doesn’t really benefit you.  Kane, as current World Heavyweight Champion, made a pin attempt on Batista in RAW’s Scramble Match.  It makes no sense to me.

Speaking of the RAW match, it really bothers me that CM Punk, the reigning World Heavyweight Champion, was written out of the match.  If they really wanted Jericho to win, they could have had Kane attack Mysterio backstage, have Jericho replace Mysterio and have Orton come out to the ring to cost Punk the World Championship.  I think it’s complete BS that Punk wasn’t even in the match that he lost the title in.

The beating HBK gave Jericho last night was not as bad as they’re going to make it out to be, though Jericho did come out of the match in pretty rough shape.  You could see how badly he was beaten up as he made his way to the ring for the Championship Scramble.  That match had a pretty good finish, with Jericho stealing the victory without getting in a single move throughout the time he was in the match.

What I’m going to take away from Unforgiven is the fact that The Brian Kendrick is eventually going to win the WWE Championship if he stays clean and doesn’t do anything stupid.  That said, the same statement will apply to Jeff Hardy, albeit much sooner than it will apply to Kendrick.

The Big Show heel turn was piss poor.  Normally the guy arguing with whoever the Undertaker is feuding with will leave before the druids come out.  Show stood there and laughed at Vickie.  Sure, he pretended to be mad at her, but you could tell that he was turning heel the moment the camera got a shot of Show and Guerrero in the ring together.

You guys all know that I’m normally against name changes – especially when the guy has his old name on his tights – but I think it’s a good thing they changed Afa Jr.’s name to Manu.  WWE doesn’t like to use “Junior” at the end of names (Chavo Guerrero, Rey Mysterio, and most recently and most baffling, Ted DiBiase).  People remember Afa, so calling this kid Afa isn’t going to make a lot of sense (again, see DiBiase, Ted).  Calling him Manu and telling everybody that he’s Afa’s son is a good move.

I’m really glad that I probably won’t ever have to see that Chris Jericho/Shawn Michaels video package again.  Hopefully, Shawn’s promo at Unforgiven stating that for Jericho, the worst is still yet to come doesn’t mean that he’s going to find himself in the World Title hunt.

That’s it for me, I’ll see you guys in the morning with a RAW review!

Hello, folks!  I’m not planning on reviewing the PPV in real-time tonight (WorldWrestlingInsanity‘s Aaron Wood will have you covered in that regard),  though I will be trying to watch it.  Since I got all but one match right at Night of Champions a few months back, I thought I’d try my hand at tonight’s Unforgiven PPV.

Last week on ECW, Colin Delaney helped Armando Estrada win his ECW contract in a match against Tommy Dreamer, and was put into an Extreme Rules match with the Innovator of Violence this week for his troubles.  Also, The Miz and John Morrison insulted both Champion and his SummerSlam challenger, leading to a match being signed pitting Miz and Morrison against the unlikely team of ECW Champion Mark Henry and Matt Hardy.  Matt Striker and Todd Grisham called the action for the second straight week.

Sorry this post is extremely late today guys, I actually had most of it written last night and was expecting to have it up pretty early today, but then some douchebag didn’t show up for work, so I ended up stuck there for another two hours.  In any event, last night’s show was pretty decent, compared to other post-draft episodes of ECW on Sci-Fi, but if you missed it, unless you’re really bored you can probably skip the X-stream on WWE.com.
