  1. ThinkSoJoE’s Thoughts

Hey there, fellow Bored Wrestling Fans!  It is I, the owner, founder, and beloved boss here at BWF, ThinkSoJoE, back with another rare edition of ThinkSoJoE’s thoughts!  I’ve been sitting around quietly for the last few months, a RAW review here or there, but nothing more here on the site, so I figured I’d drop in with some thoughts on the current state of sports entertainment!

  2. Power Poll for the Week Ending: 2/23/11. Flying Solo

What’s up folks? I guess this will be a little different than your normal Power Poll installment. Yes, there will be animated gifs (I made three of them just for you)! But, I did not receive any results from our ringmaster. So… these are only my own rankings, as biased as ever!

  3. G invades a podcast? What?

It’s a funny world. I found myself invited by a gentleman by the name of Dan from a place that no longer exists that podcasted with this here G about the “wrestlemans.” They are a noble crew indeed. So we decided to be smarks and whatnot and deliver something unique in the form of a… wax-cylinder recording. Podcast, if you will.

  4. ThinkSoJoE’s Thoughts: 40″ of snow edition!

Hey all!  A few days ago, Drowgoddess lamented on the fact that three members of the BWF staff were in the process of moving, including Jamie Kennedy, JT, and myself.  My move took all of a day as I moved from Niagara Falls, NY to Buffalo, NY.  South Buffalo, NY.  Yes, the same South Buffalo you just saw on the Weather Channel for the past two days as we got buried under 40″ of snow.  Meanwhile, back in Niagara Falls, there is absolutely no snow on the ground.  Yeah.  I picked a good time to move.

My car got stuck Thursday morning, and I called AAA to come tow me out (and change the tire I popped).  Twelve hours later, they called to tell me they were helpless to help since they couldn’t get down my street without worrying about getting stuck themselves.  The city towed me the next day, and it took me three hours to figure out where they towed it to.  I still can’t find a spot on my street…

Alas, this is a wrestling website, and I’m sure something must’ve happened in the world of Sports Entertainment this week.  Ah yes, that’s right.  MVP asked for, and was granted, a release from his WWE contract.  Word is that MVP is trying to head out to Japan for work for the time being.

News is also coming out this week that Superstar Billy Graham has officially booked his last public appearance.  Graham’s failing health has led to his announcement that the WrestleReunion event in Los Angeles, January 29-31, will be his last public appearance of any kind.  Graham indicates that the end is near for his “run on this Earth,” and while he’s still with us, we’d like to take the opportunity to thank him for paving the way for the professional wrestlers of today.

Matt Hardy babbled on the internet about somethingorother.  I couldn’t be bothered to pay any attention.  I’m sick of Matt Hardy going online and complaining about anything to anybody who will listen.  He’s an attention starved, out of shape, past his prime crybaby with too much time on his hands.  Shut up, Matt.

Kaitlyn won WWE NXT Season 3.  Nobody cared.  The season 4 pros and rookies were announced.  Again, nobody cared.  Once the show isn’t on TV anymore, nobody cares.  Bring on Tough Enough already.

WWE seems to have decided not to go with the whole “Juan Cena” angle.  Which is probably a good thing.  If you ask me, the whole thing was a work.  WWE decided to screw with the IWC, even going as far as to have the character listed on house show cards and actually debut at one last Sunday night.  Hell, until he attacked Slater and Gabriel after their tag match, we didn’t actually SEE John Cena – just his armbands.  Kudos, WWE.  You got one over on us.

Finally, we’re hearing that Shawn Michaels will be involved in some way with the WWE Tribute to the Troops this year, which takes place at Fort Hood, TX.  Before you get all up in arms about him doing the same thing that Ric Flair did after the amazing retirement celebration WWE gave him, keep in mind that this is more of a promotional appearance than a return to the WWE.  HBK has been a big name in the WWE for the past 20+ years, so why wouldn’t they promote him for an NBC broadcast?

Until next time, take care and stay warm!

  5. BWF Roundtable: WWE Bragging Rights

What’s up, fellow Bored Wrestling Fans!  This Monday night, yours truly will be at the HSBC Arena for RAW!  Will I be watching the show that proves to be the dominant brand in sports entertainment, or will I be on the loser show?  Also, will John Cena be on RAW this Monday?  These questions will be answered tomorrow night at WWE Bragging Rights.  Here’s what the BWF staff had to say about each match.

WWE Championship Iron Man Match: John Cena vs. Randy Orton (c)

JT: As much as Cen need a change of scenery and him going to Smackdown would be a goog thing, I just don’t see it happening just yet. Cena wins.

Drowgoddess: Cena wins. I would like to be pleasantly surprised with this, as I’m a huge fan of the “60-Minute Iron Man” match, but I just don’t know if these two can go that long without a lot of stalling and padding.

RYTMAN: Orton beats Cena (w/screwjob finish.) Cena to Smackdown.

The Green Teabagger: Cena wins the WWE Title back (yeah, I know).

ThinkSoJoE: I think moving to SmackDown would be beneficial for Cena at this point in his career, though as much as I’d love to attend a Cena-free RAW on Monday, my head tells me it’s not happening.  Cena is arguably the biggest star in the company, and will most likely stay on the flagship show.  Cena wins.

World Heavyweight Championship Fatal Four Way: CM Punk vs. Rey Mysterio vs. Batista vs. The Undertaker (c)

JT: Ugh, this shoud Punk’s one on one match, not a fatal four way. Having said that, I’m going with Punk with the surprise win here, forwarding the upcoming Batista heel turn.

Drowgoddess: A Punk win would please me greatly. The odds are so stacked against him that a sneaky, stolen win would be a surprise. That said, I think they’ll have Taker retain.

RYTMAN: Undertaker retains, Batista gets pissed.

The Green Teabagger: Punk wins his belt back.

ThinkSoJoE: Mysterio will somehow cost Batista the win here, but I can’t see Mysterio winning the title either.  I think it’s too soon for him to lose it, so I’d say Taker retains.

SmackDown vs. RAW:  The Miz vs. John Morrison

JT: A loss by Morrison here won’t hurt him but willdo wonders for The Miz. The Miz Wins

Drowgoddess: The real winner here is the audience. I honestly don’t know that I care who wins this match, I’d be happy with either one. For the sake of a good story, I’ll pick the Miz.

    RYTMAN: Morrison beats Miz.

The Green Teabagger: Shawn Michaels beats Marty Jannetty John Morrison beats The Miz

ThinkSoJoE: Because of the chemistry these two have, both as partners and opponents, and because there was no real feud between the two following The Miz dropping Morrison on RAW when he got drafted, The Miz is going to win this one.  Morrison will eventually get his rematch – and his revenge.  I’m calling it – Miz vs. Morrison at WM26.

14 Man SmackDown vs. RAW tag team match – Chris Jericho, Kane, Matt Hardy, Finlay, R-Truth, and The Hart Dynasty vs. DX, The Big Show, Jack Swagger, Kofi Kingston, Cody Rhodes, and Mark Henry.

JT: With the changes being made to this match at the last minute leads me more to believe that Team RAW wins here, at least with the original team there was potential for an upset.

Drowgoddess: Despite the changes to the “Smackdown” team, I’m pretty sure that the RAW team is winning here.

RYTMAN: Team Raw buries team Smackdown.

The Green Teabagger: D-X beats Smackdown when Big Show “betrays” Raw and D-X overcomes it. The other five members of the Raw team will be beaten up either way, and no one will remember that they won too.

ThinkSoJoE: Given that all of Team SmackDown, other than captains Jericho and Kane of course, actually lost their qualifying matches to get into this match, and that DX is captaining the other team, yeah, it’s unanimous – all of BWF are picking Team RAW.

6 Diva SmackDown vs. RAW tag team match – Michelle McCool, Beth Phoenix, & Natalya vs. Melina, Gail Kim, & Kelly Kelly

JT: Since the 14 man match will be the decider matchup and I picked the Miz, I’ll go with the Smackdown Divas here.

Drowgoddess: I can’t stand McCool, but I love Beth Phoenix and Natalya, and want to see them win. That said, I’m thinking Melina, Gail, and Kelly get the actual victory when Beth breaks McCool in half.

RYTMAN: I think Divas match is McCool vs. Melina. I’ll say Melina. (Note:  RYTMAN got this to me before the match was officially announced)

The Green Teabagger: I don’t give a damn. If there is any justice, Beth Phoenix will just go apeshit and tear everyone apart. Hell, Smackdown wins this one.

ThinkSoJoE: There is no way in hell that the RAW Divas should be able to win this with Beth Phoenix and Natalya on Team SmackDown.  But of course, if The Miz is going to win his match, Team RAW has to win this one to make it seem like RAW is still the dominant brand.

  6. New site launches; Who is Paint Fingers?; and More!

Greetings, fellow Bored Wrestling Fans!  I’m happy to announce that as of yesterday, March 16, we’ve launched our second professional wrestling related site,  Vince Russo Watches His Beard Grow.  The name was inspired by a throwaway joke in the March 6th “induction” at WrestleCrap.com, and the site aims to offer a unique brand of sports entertainment satire.  The site will feature articles from writer Sabufan, as well as  appearances by the usual BoredWrestlingFan.com cast.

UPDATE: The first article from Sabufan is now live!  Click here to go directly to the article!

Speaking of the BoredWrestlingFan.com cast, you may have noticed that yesterday’s RAW review was written by a mysterious new writer going by the name “Paint Fingers.”  Paint Fingers is an artist from Buffalo, NY who has been a wrestling fan for most of her life.  She also happens to by my girlfriend.  So why the name “Paint Fingers?”  She was painting just before I signed her up to write, and her hands were covered in paint, so that was the name she picked.  Hope you guys enjoyed her review of the show!

We may be adding a new weekly article to our regular rotation, but I will have more on that when I confirm the details.

On a final note, our friend RD Lee has asked that we help bring the classic arcade game WWF WrestleFest to the Xbox Live Arcade.  How can we do that, you ask?  Simple – sign the petition over at BringBackWrestleFest.com!

  7. WWE RAW review – 1/19/09

Oh what a joyous day!  Today is Martin Luther King, Jr. day, and it’s only fitting that tomorrow morning is the inauguration of the first black president in United States history, Barack Obama.  I’m counting down the hours until Dubya is gone, but for our purposes today, that’s pretty irrelevant.

Today is also joyous for another reason – Mr. McMahon returns to Monday Night RAW!  It’s fitting, perhaps, that the last time Mr. McMahon was on WWE television was also the last time I had to write a review of RAW the way I’m doing tonight – I’ll be writing most of it here at home, then finishing it once I get to work.  For you early adopters of the BoredWrestlingFan brand of Sports Entertainment coverage, no, the power was never turned back on at my job – in fact, the place is now out of business.  I started a new job doing exactly what I was doing before – sadly for less money.

Anyways, you’re not here to read about my life (I’ve got ThinkSoJoE’s Thoughts for that!), you’re here to read about Monday Night RAW!  Fear not, loyal readers, the results are after the jump! (more…)

  8. World … Entertainment?

    “World … Entertainment?”

I know a thing or two about entertainment. My degree is in theatre. I have spent the last decade teaching theatre arts and speech in public schools. I have directed numerous stage productions, some involving over fifty people, armed with little more than a script and a deadline. I have been paid to act, and even did so in a manner that involved keeping my clothes on. I have trained in and performed Irish step dance. In short, I have a vague idea of what entertainment is, how it works, and what being an entertainer means. (more…)

  9. Speeding up the corporate ladder – RAW 7/28/08

Holy hell – I never expected the new RAW GM to be him!  I’m not going to post it up here though, if you don’t know who it is already.  I didn’t find out who the new RAW GM was until 7:30 this morning, and I’m going to make you wait just the same.  Meanwhile, RAW was pretty… interesting last night.  Michael Cole was in a match, was beaten up, replaced with Mike Adamle, and then later, JR joined Adamle and the King on commentary.  Kane and JBL got into it a few times, Cena and Batista almost went at it, and CM Punk took on William Regal, among other things.

The results, and my analysis after the jump!
