  1. WWE Superstars

Its late.  I’m tired.  This is gonna be quick.

Match 1:  Evan Bourne vs Chris Masters

This match looked like a squash until the end, when Bourne made his comeback and hit his Shooting Star Press for the win.  Raw is not doing a good job in building their midcard scene.  Masters should be in the US Title race…not losing to Evan Bourne.  Evan Bourne should be on Smackdown in the IC Title race…not beating huge guys like Masters and Jack Swagger.

Match 2:  William Regal vs Tyler Reks

Tyler Reks sucks.  He looks like he needs to take a massive duece when he walks.  Regal wins with his running knee.  After the match, Big Zeke and Kozlov hit their finishers on Reks for good measure.

Match 3: Cryme Time and Eve vs the Hart Dynasty

Good match…even with the divas involved.  Eve looks good in the ring and Natalya is good in the ring.  Natalya gets the win after Eve missed her acrobatic splash followed by a Natalya clothesline.

    See ya next week folks.

Its the first WWE Superstars after Summerslam.  Let’s go.

Match 1:  The All-American American Jack Swagger vs Mr Cartwheel…Primo

Get down on your knees!  I’m a big fan of Jack Swagger…Jerk of the Month in WWE Magazine or not.  The All-American American gets the win with his Gut Wrench Powerbomb.  After the match, he gets on the mic and says we are looking at the only Superstar born to be the US champ.  Watch out Kofi!

Ask the Divas segment….”How do I know if a girl likes me?”

We see Gregory Helms enter the boiler room and out comes The Hurricane!

Match 2:  The Hurricane vs Paul Burchill w/ Katie Lea

Stand back!  There’s a Hurricane coming through.  Katie Lea needs to stop wearing her make-up like that.  She looks horrendous.  Paul Burchill has gotten fat.  The Ripper gets the win with the interference from his sister.

Main Event Triple Threat:  Dolph Ziggler vs Finlay vs Mike Knox

Winner of this match faces Rey Mysterio at Breaking Point for the Intercontinental title.  Dolph says Mysterio’s win at Summerslam was a fluke.  Mike Knox is severely under-utilized.  That guy is a big sumuma-gun.  He attempts to hit Finlay with the sheleleigh (spell check), but misses and Finlay hits the Celtic Cross.  Finlay for the pin, but Dolph throws him off and gets the pin for himself.

This show was better than the recent ones have been.  At least they made sense this week.  Check me out again next week and see if Superstars can remain sensable.

Ok.  Let’s get wet and wild…

Match 1:  Kelly Kelly vs Beth Phoenix

I hate Diva wrestling.  Beth Phoenix wins.  This match got way too much time.

Match 2:  Shelton Benjamin vs Tyler Reks

Is Shelton a babyface or heel right now?  They need to make up their mind with that.  Tyler Reks blows choad.  He walks like he just took it up the butt right before coming to the ring.  Shelton hits Paydirt for the win.

Match 3:  Charlie Haas vs R-Truth

Holy Crap!  There’s been an R-Truth sighting!!!  Where has this guy been?  He must have been skippin’ and jumpin’ to the wrong cities and arenas.  I think Haas will be future endeavored soon.  Truth wins with the Lie Detector.

Main Event:  Mizzark Henry vs The Masterpiece Chris Masters

Masters seems to have used his hiatus from WWE to get back on the roids to beef up a little more.  I like the Masterpiece.  He’s a guy that could be the next Batista ( in terms of popularity) if they use him right.  Big Mark looks like Koolaid in that red.  Mark Henry gets the win via countout, as Masters walks away from the ring.

Ok.  It looks like Superstars has finally become what it was intended to be, as all the time went to the midcarders.  Check me out again next week, as more midcarders get TV exposure without getting crapped on by HHH or John Cena…maybe.

Ok… Raw sucked (read the results, didn’t watch) and ECW was very mediocre this week, so let’s see what Superstars has in store for us.

Match 1:  John Morrison vs David Hart Smith

WWE is Canada is always ass backwards.  David Hart Smith and Natalya get the huge pops in their home country.  John Morrison is one of the few bright spots in WWE right now.  Hell of a main event for Smackdown as Morrison takes on CM Punk.  Little Bulldog is massive!  He pounds on the Shaman of Sexy for a lot of the match.  He hit a terrific suplex off the top rope.  Morrison eventually hit all of his spots (Pele kick, standing moonsault, spinning kick, etc.)  The Guru of Greatness gets the win with Starship Pain.

    Match 2:  Goldust vs Sheamus

The Celtic Warrior is huge, but looks smaller than he is because of his almost transparent skin.  Dude is ghostly.  How many times in a row are they going to do this match?  Shouldn’t Sheamus be taking on other people to gain experience?  This is just another example of WWE’s lazy booking.  Anyway, Goldust wins with a rollup for some reason.  Sheamus didn’t look weak, but shouldn’t they be booking him better than to lose to Goldust?

Random main event time:  Mickie James and Kofi Kingston vs Rosa Mendez and Carlito in a Mixed Tag match

Alrighty then.  This does nothing to enhance any feud.  What’s up with Carlito’s hair?  He look’s like a shi tzu who hasn’t been groomed in a while.  I guess its part of his new dark and gloomy persona.  This match was dominated in time by Kofi and Carlito.  I think Mickie and Rosa were in the ring for about 15 seconds.  Carlito gets the win after a backstabber off the top rope.

Random Random Random.  I get that Carlito should be in the mix for the US title, but shouldn’t he also be dealing with his brother?  Isn’t Gail Kim the number one contender for the Diva title?  Why wasn’t she in that match?  Sheamus should be booked to be taking people out…not losing to Goldust.  John Morrison is great…nuf said.

Remember to check out Smackdown, which is obviously the best show WWE has to offer right now.  See you next week.

  6. The life of a WWE seat-filler

BWF reader/commenter Gee attended this past Monday’s RAW as a “seat-filler,” which basically means he got to go to RAW and get awesome seats for free just so the camera shows a full crowd at all times.  Here is his experience in his own words, taken straight from the comments from Monday’s RAW.

Well, I did it, was a “seat filler” for RAW in Calgary. And since I was told we were technically WWE employees for the duration of the show, I guess that means that I got future-endeavored at the end. So here’ s my first shoot!

We went to our meeting place and waited around for about 45 minutes (even though we were on time). This guy whose name I never caught told us what our job was (i.e. employee duty). We were to start at the “home-base” seats which were on the floor facing the Trinatron, but at the very back end. The new HD looks awesome live on that screen!

If we got moved, it was to seats that would be on camera to replace no-shows or people getting a beer, etc. We were given special green wristbands with the word “pusher” on it. He told us that we are not given shirts or anything else that distinguished us as staff as to keep this a secret from the audience. If we got into any altercations with returning people who wondered why we were in their seats, security was aware of these bands.

So we go to the home base and watch Morrison and D.H. Smith begin their Superstars match. No spoilers, so no worries. I will say that Smith got some big pops from the crowd.

Our orientation guy comes and takes the entire group of us from home-base after the match. So we moved into a row facing the main ring camera dead-on (basically in perfect view). After a couple matches, we were moved out and ended up in the first row of non-floor seating. That lasted about 20 minutes and into the start of RAW we got to watch the intro up close. Lillian is really hot up close!

The commercial break… Back to home-base. Halfway through the first RAW match we have buddy come to move us back to better seats. He gets interrupted by another headset wearing guy who said something about “Kevin” telling him to get some guy with a ghost mask off camera side view. He said this ghost mask guy could stay at the event, but had to go to the other side of the ring.

We get moved to the best seats we had all night for the rest of the show. I am on TV all night when the main ring angle is used. Never moved again. Best seats I’ve had at a show with a perfect view…. and…. wait for it…… FREE!!! I am one row back, two to the left from your perspective of the guy with the “LESS Big Show, More Gail Kim” sign in a black tee shirt.

The post television match was basically Cena speaking about Bret Hart’s legacy and impact on prowrestling to Orton who was at the entry ramp on his way out. While untelivised, this was not only Cena’s best reaction, the crowd was never louder during his speech on Hart. Cena then told him that while he may not agree with some of Orton’s decisions, he respected him and that next week they would be teammates. Orton came down to shake Cena’s hand (oh really?). This of course turned into a fight which was vastly superior to the main event which was pretty live in person. I’m going to watch myself watch wrestling now and will add bullet points below for anything I might have missed.

My own (Gee’s) “Random thoughts” and points about the live show
    —————————————————————————————–
Best sign I saw while there: “Shaq your Sega game sucks”

Honourable mention: “I am not a nugget!” (We are the Hart-land after all. My brother used to see Jericho at a favorite pub on open-mic night often. Had numerous Hart brothers as substitute teachers as a kid including Keith and Bruce for sure. Stampede Wrestling and Ed Whaylon ruled. My best friend’s cousin when I was a kid was “He Who Shall Not Be Named.” He bodyslammed me onto a couch along with my friend and my brother. Yeah that last one sucks now as wrestling topic, but you get the point. The Harts and the Dungeons students were hard to avoid growing up here in the eighties and nineties. Thus, Owen references get the nod).

They may not be selling Jeff Hardy stuff online, but they sure were selling it at the Saddledome

Evan Bourne is awesome live, although the match was very short.

Masters sucks and the crowd yelled a lot of steroid related comments at him (e.g.. Roid monkey).

The crowd was a bit louder for Eugene than the “Calgary Kid” They also booed the referee for this match for some reason. That came across bad with me, I actually think this new dude is good at it.

Santino’s shirts were really popular, almost seemed like every twentieth person was wearing/carrying one on the way out.

MVP is really over up here (probably because he rules).

The was a huge pop for Jerry the King Lawler.

You could hear an almost silence of shame come over the crowd during the Piven recap. Except when Dr. Ken took his bump. They muted the crowd here.

Jillian is more painful to listen to sing live. They had to crank her up so loud, WWE must have really turned the audience booing down for that segment.

Canadians cheered for Y2J regardless of what he said or did. The crowd was VERY divided as the usual kids and women and a bunch of metrosexual-looking types where I was.

The “We Want Bret” chant was VERY loud and reoccurred often after Slaughter’s little sketch.

The fans booed the US Army stuff they put on during commercial breaks. Makes sense, we are Canadians and have OUR OWN troops overseas too fighting alongside the US. Maybe they could have acknowledged that?

I saw a lot of signs taken, but some the guy just to my right, down one row kept his “THIS IS STUPID” sign the whole night. I’ve seen him with it a bunch now just in the Show/Orton match already. HD makes is very easy to read.

Yes, we do call Calgary “Cowtown” as mentioned by Jericho. Our city was settled by ranchers and the beef industry is still huge as is oil.

    Peace.

Thanks, Gee, for sharing your experience with us!  RAW is coming back to Buffalo in October, I wonder if I can get in on that?

  7. WWE Superstars review…3 days late

Alright my peeps.  I’m here.  I’m not dead.  I finally have a chance to watch the show from Thursday night.  Lets go.

Match 1:  Its-a-he Santino vs the Masterpiece Chris Masters

Santino’s face when Masters came out was priceless!  Santino tried to go Karate Kid on Masters, then did an acrabatic roll to the other side of the ring.  Once Masters got ahold of Santino, it was downhill from there for him.  For a little bit of humor (what else is Santino good for) he tried to apply the Masterlock on Chris Masters, only to get dominated again.  Masters wins with the Masterlock after Santino attempted to “Hulk-up.”

Match 2:  William Regal and Paul Burchill vs Tyler Reks and Yoshi Tatsu

My fiance totally marked out for Yoshi when he came out.  Match started out with Yoshi and Burchill.  Wouldn’t Burchill have fit better in ECW 3 years ago when he was Pirate Paul and when ECW was mainly a gimmick show?  Regal flips over an attempted springboard splash pin for the win over Tyler Reks.  Tyler Reks is awkward.  He looks like he has something stuck in his butt when he walks.

Video package with John Cena throwing out the first pitch at a Cubs game.

Main Event :  Intercontinental Champion Rey Mysterio vs Mike Knox

Mike Knox is severely under-utilized!  Dude is massive and burly.  Special guest commentator is Dolph Ziggler.  This is the typical Rey Mysterio match. He gets dominated the whole match by the much bigger opponent and then gets the win.  Rey hits the 619 and goes for the splash, only to have Dolph Ziggler pull him off the mat.  Rey gets the win via disqualification.

Santino was the only reason to watch this show, much like Raw.  There is a reason this show is on WGN…nobody wants to watch it.  Sometimes its good, sometimes its terrible, most of the time its random.  See ya next week.

  8. WWE Superstars Review

Let’s get crazy and see what happens.

Match 1:  John Morrison vs Tyson Kidd

I’m looking forward to seeing Morrison/Hardy for the World Heavyweight title on Smackdown!  The craftiness of Kidd and Morrison make for a great match.  These two guys are prime examples for why Smackdown is so much better than Raw right now.  Kidd hit a sick neckbreaker at the edge of the apron on Morrison during the middle of the match.  Morrison exhibited his usual greatness.  David Hart Smith and Natalya were ejected from ringside, which ulitimately spelled doom for Tyson Kidd in this match.  John Morrison is one of my favorite superstars and his explosiveness is second to none.  The Shaman of Sexy hit Starship Pain for the win.

Match 2:  William Regal vs the Japanese Sensation Yoshi Tatsu

Yoshi Tatsu gets some of the biggest pops when he comes out to the ring.  The fans love this guy.  He kicks and karate chops guys to death.  However, William Regal gets the win with a running knee.  Regal gets his win back with that one.

Josh Matthews interviews Randy Orton in the locker room.  He asks Orton’s impressions on John Cena winning the beat the clock challenge.  He said Cena has won pain and agony with his beat the clock victory.

Main Event:  WWE Champion Randy Orton vs the cartwheeling Primo Colon

Here is the random match of the night…but I like it.  Primo is exciting and its always nice to see the CHAMPION get a chance at a real victory.  Primo starts like an A.D.D. kid without his meds.  He bounces all over the place and gets his offense in until the commercial break.  During the break, Orton regains control and starts his methodical beatdown of Primo.  Primo hits the ropes and nails a flying elbow and then his cartwheel.  Missile dropkick hits but the springboard splash misses and Orton hits the RKO for the win.  Refreshing match for the both of them.

This was a good, entertaining show.  I like how they mixed good matches with the randomness this week.  I guess thats what Superstars is for.  Anywho…come back and check me out next week.
