1. Old School!

    Old School!

Oh the weather outside is frightful – so it’s a good day to stay inside for a podcast.  With wind chill temperatures hovering around -30 Fahrenheit, Joe invited the BWF crew to join him on Skype, and Mark accepted, followed a little later by JT.  The crew talk about Old School RAW, and it leads to discussions about Daniel Bryan, slow builds, and more.  The talk turns to the returning Batista (“basketballs don’t hold grudges,”) and then to WWE 2K14 DLC, the last set of which is available today.  Virgil’s career highlights are discussed, and comparisons are made between the heyday of Bruno Sammartino and today.  Stay in, stay warm, grab a hot beverage and tune in!

  2. You’ve probably heard more than one person say that since last week’s Monday Night RAW when Daniel Bryan joined the Wyatt family…in the closing segment of the show. He was then in the closing segment of Smackdown. Oh yeah, he’s totally in the midcard now. You’ll have to excuse me because I’m British and full of scathing sarcasm.

Alright, he was in the opening match this past week on RAW. That’s hardly a top spot, but as has been said before the opening match can be just as important as the main event. It’s why the top guys open the show in segments that drag on and on and on and on and on…and on. Like the one with Cena and Orton from this past week. The opening match is important in hyping the crowd up and getting them involved in things and Bryan is damn good at that. Heck it kept me paying attention after that opening segment. He could be in a better position but he could still be in a much worse one. He could be a Ziggler.

There’s also something else stopping Bryan from being a heel; the fans. You know, you people who are calling him a heel. While there was initially some “NO!” chants during his entrance with the Wyatt’s, as soon as he came in the entire crowd was still behind him. They’ll probably stay that way too. Remember the last time he was a heel? It was absolutely amazing and the smart fans kept cheering him so much they HAD to make him a babyface. Being a heel is the reason he got so over. Being a heel meant he lost in 18 seconds and that made him the most over guy since Cena debuted.

The WWE can NOT make people faces or heels. The fans do and it’s up to the fans who the faces and heels are. The authority get cheers despite being heels, Orton still gets cheers, and Cena gets boos. Daniel Bryan will continue to be cheered, and so will a lot of people who probably don’t deserve it. If you think that what Bryan is being put through is absolute garbage then he needs your support more than ever. Don’t let the E dictate how you think and feel. They delight in breaking you down so much that you just go with their stuff. Support Bryan now more than ever. He’s one of the only good things about the show and it’s up to us to decide that and no one else.

Hey remember that time D-Bry was a heel and was chanted for throughout the entire show?

  3. So, you guys know the deal – I usually watch 30 minutes of RAW, leave for work, and review the rest of this show in real time as I watch it.  Well, due to inclement weather here in Buffalo, I find myself sitting at home right now, having watched all but 30 minutes of RAW.  I went out to catch my bus to work, but although the local bus company insists that their buses were all running on time today, mine never showed up.  At the time I left, it was 11 degrees Fahrenheit with a wind chill of -20.  As I type this, it’s 1 with a wind chill of -32.  So, if you can’t tell, IT’S FUCKING COLD OUTSIDE!  So, I called my boss, told him I couldn’t make it in, then came home and watched the rest of Old School RAW.  Afterward, I did some DDP Yoga, so I’m here now to actually review the whole show.  Let’s go!

I watch 30 minutes of RAW, freeze my ass off waiting for a bus that never shows up, and then come home and watch the rest of RAW.  That’s how this particular RAW review works.   It’s only getting colder!

Joe, Jorge, G, and Mark – that’s right, no JT this week (he’s off bumper bowling at Chuck E. Cheese) – bring you another great week of BoredWrestlingFan Radio, brought to you by hashtag ButtPlug.  Joe has a ton of stuff crash down on him from above to start the show, leaving the left arrow key on his laptop as a casualty.  The wrestling television programs get reviewed by the wrong guys, with Star Wars themed consequences.  Joe tells us when to expect the WWE Network launch announcement, and it’s revealed that Chris Benoit will be shown on network programming, albeit with a disclaimer at the beginning of each show he’s featured in.  We find out who The Undertaker has requested to face at WrestleMania.  Hulk Hogan and Ric Flair are backing NFL teams you wouldn’t expect them to in this post season.  JT checks in from Chuck E. Cheese (which he insists isn’t Chuck E. Cheese), Rowdy Rodimus joins us via our Ustream chat box (and you can too, every Sunday LIVE at 2PM Eastern!), and Jorge leaves early for “band practice.”  Tune in!

This week’s break song was “Colony of Birchmen” by Mastadon.  Buy it here!

  5. So.  G’s clone decided he wanted to take over my RAW review on Monday, huh?  Well then, two can play at that game.  G’s locked up in his own apartment basement (Team Alpha rescued JT, and caught G while he was trying to stop us), and I’m here to tell you all about… SmackDown?  This show is still on the air?  Oh well.  Fuck it.  It’s hopping time!

I watch, write, suffer, and succumb to this show, yet I have to put my first animated GIF below the fold so the dudes at Wonderpod don’t yell at me.  This is not your typical SmackDown review.  I have no intent of taking this show seriously, since it was taped almost a week ago, a day before RAW even aired – and RAW was live, so I don’t expect a lot of storyline advancement out of this show.  So fuck it, let’s go!  And fuck you, RAW review!

  6. As G has gone to see the first film in a theatre in “The Empire of Smaug Strikes Back”, I have taken over this review… or at least for the time being. HELP! If he discovers I posted here while he was away, he’ll surely kill me and the monkey that resides in the open cage upon the stairs. I am hoping he will not read this, as he usually skips the RAW review because it “Fucking sucks.” Save me Obi-Wan… (article hijack update).

  7. Uh…

Jorge returns and… the show goes less than two hours?!?  Yes folks, Joe, JT, G, Jorge, and Mark return to tell you all about the wonderful week that was in professional wrestling, including RAW, IMPACT, and SmackDown reviews and all the latest professional wrestling news.  Will Brock Lesnar return for one more UFC fight?  Cowboy James Storm talks about Wildcat Chris Harris’ run in WWE as Braden Walker.  Mark Henry talks about Kizarny – the gimmick, anyway.  Samoa Joe may or may not be welcome back to ROH if he chose to return.  Ricardo Rodriguez is the new Heath Slater?  All this, and much more on BWF Radio Episode 106!

    BoredWrestlingFan Radio Episode 106 (MP3, 1:57:42)

This week’s break song was “Somber” by Jeff Burgess, which, as usual when Mark picks the song, I can’t find a link to buy.

  8. Holidays. They happen. The question is Taco or No Taco (hint, check out that article). By default, I will watch this show. Maybe the answer to that question will be discovered? Maybe…

  9. Wrestling doesn’t take breaks so neither do we. Maybe they should, so that we could. Selfish bastards.

Though not as selfish as the E, who are going to unleash this on Joe
