  4. BWF Roundtable: 2009 Survivor Series

World Heavyweight Champion Undertaker vs. Big Show vs. Chris Jericho (Triple Threat Match):

JT: Jericho over Undertaker & Big Show

Drowgoddess: Undertaker wins. Either Jericho or Show will cost the other the win, and they’ll continue to fall apart as a tag team. Taker’s not losing anything at this point.

ThinkSoJoE: I think we all know who’s prying that belt from the cold, dead hands of The Undertaker – and it’s not Chris Jericho or The Big Show.  Somebody had a feud over the World Heavyweight Championship with The Undertaker that never had a proper finish, and he just turned heel.  Expect ‘Taker to walk out with the gold in tact.

    Rey Mysterio vs. Batista

JT: Batista eats Mysterio then gets injured

    Drowgoddess: Batista wins. ‘Nuff said.

ThinkSoJoE: I don’t think it’s so much a question of who is going to win, but more of if this match is going to live up to the buildup.  Batista made Rey sign a hold-harmless agreement – Since I’m pretty confident The Animal is taking this one, he’d better leave Mysterio half dead in the center of the ring.

Team Kingston (Kofi Kingston, MVP, Mark Henry, R-Truth, & Christian) vs. Team Orton (Randy Orton, Cody Rhodes, Ted DiBiase Jr. , CM Punk, & William Regal) :Traditional Survivor Series Elimination Tag Team Match:

JT: Team Orton over Team Kingston

Drowgoddess: This is a tough call. I really don’t care about the teams as a whole, but I’m a tremendous fan of both Kofi Kingston and CM Punk. I’m essentially chosing between them. I’ll go with Team Kofi to win, as Punk has not been the same since his World title loss to Undertaker. Neither he nor the team of which he is a part will win here.

ThinkSoJoE: Randy Orton’s got a reputation to uphold.  He’s been the sole survivor a few times at the Survivor Series, so I’m kind of leaning towards that happening here.  Orton will stand alone and still manage to win.

Team Morrison (John Morrison, Matt Hardy, Evan Bourne, Shelton Benjamin, & Finlay) vs. Team Miz (The Miz, Drew McIntyre, Sheamus, Dolph Ziggler, & Jack Swagger) : Traditional Survivor Series Elimination Tag Team Match

JT: Team Morrison over Team Miz

Drowgoddess: Why is this ppv sounding so much like the “Twilight” movies? Team Edward, Team Jacob, Team This, Team That. At least these guys don’t sparkle in sunlight. With the possible exception of Sheamus. Like anyone’s going to tell him! In any case, despite the level of fandom I have for both Morrison and Bourne, I’m going with Team Miz to win here. Sheamus and McIntyre are absolute BEASTS, Swagger and Ziggler can play the technical game, and The Miz is simply awesome.

ThinkSoJoE: Miz beat Morrison at Bragging Rights – Morrison should get his revenge here.  The way I see it, Morrison can pin The Miz here, and then maybe they run into – and eliminate – each other at the Royal Rumble setting up a WrestleMania match.  For what it’s worth, I also see Team Miz imploding and costing themselves the match.

WWE Champion John Cena vs. Triple H vs. Shawn Michaels (Triple Threat Match)

JT: Cena over D-X, yeah I said it.

Drowgoddess: *YAWN* I so don’t care. Honestly, I’m not being smarky, I sincerely don’t care the slightest little bit about this match or who wins it. Considering what I predicted in the World title 3-way above, HBK steals a win from underneath HHH, and the DX split takes front and center.

ThinkSoJoE: I’m going to get heat for this, I know it – but Shawn Michaels is the best professional wrestler in the world today.  It’s been years since HBK had a title run, and I’d love to see it happen here, but since this match was just randomly thrown together by two guys who turn left for a living and a leprechaun, I’m fully expecting Cena to win.

Team Mickie (Mickie James, Eve Torres, Kelly Kelly, Melina, & Gail Kim) vs. Team Michelle (Michelle McCool, Jillian Hall, Beth Phoenix, Alicia Fox, & Layla) :Traditional Survivor Series Tag Team Elimination Match

    JT: F@^& the Divas Match

Drowgoddess: Another yawner for me, since I have no interest in nailing any of these women. I love Beth Phoenix, and she’s so much better than this, but I’m choosing Team Mickie. Mickie, Gail Kim, and, to a lesser extent, Melina, can actually wrestle. Plus, I live for the day that Michelle McCool gets hit by an 18-wheeler hauling toxic waste. Don’t mistake that for heel heat. She’s not that good. It’s “get off my tv and out of my world” heat.

ThinkSoJoE: So wait, let me see if I’ve got this right.  Kelly Kelly, Eve Torres, Alicia Fox, and Layla all got into this match, but Natalya, one of the few women on the roster who can actually wrestle, didn’t?  Who books this crap?  My prediction is half the audience gets up and goes to use the restroom during this one.

  5. WWE Superstars Review…a little late

Ok, ok, ok.  I’m 2 days late here.  But, better late than never right?  Here are some quick results from this weeks Superstars.

Match 1:  Shelton Benjamin vs Zack Ryder w/Rosa Mendes

Rosa gets a call at ringside and throws the phone to Zack.  She gets into the ring to tell him he has a phone call.  As Ryder is looking at her, Shelton comes at him and Ryder ducks him to get the quick pin.  Very strange sequence.

    Ask the Divas segment….zzzzzz….zzzzzz…zzz..zzzzzzzzzz….zzz…..zzzzzz

Match 2:  Eric Escobar w/ Vickie Guerrero vs Jimmy Wang Yang

Vickie distracts JWY and Escobar hits a running jump kick for the win.

Main Event:  Cody Rhodes vs Mark Henry

Why didn’t Legacy make an appearance on RAW this past Monday?  Mark Henry wins this one with the World’s Strongest Slam.

Survivor Series is tonight.  So, here are some quick projections.

    Team Kofi vs Team RKO

Winner:  Team Kofi.  Kofi gets the final elimination pin over Randy Orton

    Team Miz vs Team Morrison

Winner:  Team Morrison.  Morrison pins Miz after an already eliminated Jack Swagger distracts Miz.

    Team Mickie vs Team McCool

Winner:  Team Mickie.  Mickie eliminates Layla and McCool to finish the match.

    Rey Mysterio vs Batista

Winner:  Rey gets the win here.  They have to continue this feud somehow.  How’s that going to happen if Batista destroys Mysterio here?

HHH/HBK/John Cena Triple Threat WWE Title Match

Winner:  HBK wins the title.  There’s not many more directions they can go with HHH and John Cena any more, so HBK gets the fresh win here.

    Jericho/Big Show/Undertaker

Winner:  Undertaker wins when Jericho and Show can’t work together.

Tonight we’ve got The Hurricane putting his mask on the line against Paul Burchill, who will leave ECW and take his sister with him if he loses.

We open up with CM Punk talking about returning to ECW. He says he’ll get the loudest longest standing ovation in ECW history. So is his current gimmick that he’s secretly doing some sort of drug?

He and William Regal will team against Christian and R-Truth

I am back from my one week absence.  Sorry about that, my loyal readers, but my family was in town last weekend and I couldn’t find the time to sit down and write my thoughts on last weeks episode.  With that said…let’s get retarted in here.

Match 1:  Fatt Lardy er…Matt Hardy vs David Hart Smith

I’m not sure if Matt can slap a tornado, but by the looks of things lately, he can probably belly bump one.  This match is very technical at the beginning.  Not to offend anybody…and I sure as hell don’t need GLAAD on my ass…but David Hart Smith looks extremely gay in the pink camo…Matt kinda does too in his purple footie pajamas.  I will say this about DH, however…he is really good with his move set, but he seems to get lost out there at times and doesn’t quite know what to do.   Matt Hardy actually lands a Moonsault, that didn’t quite land, but at least he did it.  Tyson Kidd jumps on the mat to distract Matt and DH lands a big boot.  The ref attempts to send Natalya and Tyson Kidd to the back, and Matt rolls Smith up for the 3-count.  This match was pretty good.  It got a little slow at times, as David Hart Smith seemed to be searching for moves.

    Ask the Divas segment…who cares?!

Match 2:  Zack Ryder w/Rosa Mendes vs Shelton Benjamin

This match is very athletic.  Shelton has the exact opposite problem of DH Smith.  He seems to go to fast at times, which causes him to botch some of his moves.  I think they could have found someone hotter to accompany Zack Ryder to the ring, but that’s not a big deal I guess.  Ryder’s Flying Leg Larriot is awesome.  He will be a future midcard title holder…I don’t see much else from him at this point and time, but maybe.  As the action spills to the outside, Rosa goes to check on Zack.  Ryder doesn’t pay attention to the count and loses by countout.  Shelton hits Pay Dirt when Ryder re-enters the ring for good measure.

Video package for Sheamus.  I definitely like that guy!  He’s gonna be a STAR!!!!

Josh Matthews interviews Cody Rhodes and Ted DiBiase.  They talk some smack about MVP and Mark Henry.  It was a good carryover from Monday.

Main Event:  MVP vs Ted DiBiase

It’s time to give the ball to MVP and DiBiase.  I think everybody is tired of seeing Cena, Orton, and HHH in the title hunt every month.  I guess the creative team on RAW just doesn’t get it though.  That’s why Smackdown and ECW are the shows to watch right now.  This match was dominated by TD2 for the most part, but MVP gets the comeback victory with a rollup.  This match was nice and physical as both guys have mean streaks.

That’s it for this week.  Check me out next week for another review of WWE Superstars.  Remember to check back in for the Smackdown review tonight.

  9. ECW 10/27

Well, my first ECW review seems to have gone over well.  So here’s the second.  Tonight’s main event is Christian vs Yoshi Tatsu for the ECW title.  William Regal and his crew and Zach Ryder probably won’t like that.  Shelton Benjamin should be looking for something to do with Sheamus running to Raw.  And there’s a new announcer.

We open with a video for Yoshi Tatsu, promoting the title match.

And the show proper starts with Abraham Washington.  The one part of the show I can’t stand.  His guest tonight is Tiffany.

They’ve got a big show tonight so he’s going to do something he never does.  Stop running his mouth.  Tony starts laughing so much Washington threatens him with the unemployment line.  Tiffany’s theme is “Insatiable?”  Did someone forget to mention the PG thing.

When asked about ECW not having an impact at Bragging Rights she points out the number of stars on the show who had their first break on ECW.  She promises that next year it will have an even bigger impact.  The reason Sheamus left is because she doesn’t want people who don’t want to be here.  So he got to leave.  Provided he wrestles one last match, tonight against Shelton.  And her arm is healing well.

Regal comes out and demands a title shot.  She refuses and says he may never get one.  After she leaves Regal has a tantrum tossing around the furniture.

We’re then introduced to Josh Matthews new partner, Byron Saxton.  They then show another video about Yoshi.

Time for Sheamus’ last match on ECW.  There’s a replay of Benjamin pounding Sheamus last week.  And interview with Shelton talks about Sheamus saying he was mediocre.  He says Sheamus is a coward and he’s running to Raw without doing anything to impress anyone.  He’ll leave with a new respect for the Gold Standard.  One of Shelton’s best promos.

Sheamus with several shots to the head and slams Benjamin’s head into the corner.  Shelton fights out of the corner and then clotheslines the Celt out of the ring.  He steps to the apron and then delivers a springboard split leg moonsault to the floor.

When we get back Sheamus’ arm is wrapped around the ringpost and Shelton is working it.  Hammerlock and he rams him into the turnbuckle.  He wants to snap it on the top rope but Sheamus slams him to the ringpost.  Then on the floor he picks Shelton up and rams him backfirst into it.  Kneedrop tot he back by the Celtic Warrior.  Chinlock.   Shelton elbows out, but ends up in a tilt-a-whirl slam.  Hard whip to the corner and then he steps on Benjamin’s head.  Another knee to the back and another variation on a chinlock.  She stops an attempt to fight out short.

Overhead belly to belly by the Gold Standard.  And they’re trading punches.    Shelton takes the advantage.  He’s whipped to the corner, leaps to the top and comes off with a clothesline.  A couple of clotheslines then he hits Stinger Splash.  Sheamus ducks a Dragonwhip but Shelton ducks a clothesline and hits a German Suplex.

Sheamus hotshots him into the ropes the hits the pump kick for the win.

Rosa is babbling about clothes to Gregory Helms.  She then wonders what he wanted to ask her.  “I just said hello”  Paul Burchill and Katie Lea show up.  She tells Rosa to leave.  Birchall wants Helms to pass a message onto Hurricane to meet him in the ring next week.

A video of the Bragging Rights tag match

Savannah interviews Christian.  He says Yoshi is the most deserving guy on ECW cause he went out and got some wins unlike some people, cough, William Regal.  Yoshi makes him excited for the future.  He will be a champ in the future.  Just not tonight.  Christian has been mentoring him and tonight he’ll learn the most important lesson any young talent can learn.  How to cope with defeat.

Christian comes out wearing a T-shirt rather than his ring jacket.  I really prefer the jacket.  Yoshi Tatsu has yet another new set of tights.  Gold would be appropriate on any other show but ECW with their supposedly platinum belt.  He’s carrying something, I thought it was a microphone at first.

Sexton even points out the tights on commentary.

Tatsu with a waistlock.  Christian backs him into the corner.  Tatsu gets one kick.  He tries a second but Christian dodges and gets a waistlock.  Tatsu take him down.  Christian works a headlock against several attempts to escape.  Tatsu slips out and slaps on a headlock of his own.

Flapjack by Christian after some rope running.  Springboard sunset flip.   Tatsu with backbody drop and a flipping senton.  Backslide.  Back to a headlock.  Tatsu sent outside but pulls himself in and rolls into a schoolboy for two.

Christian’s working a  headlock on  the mat.  Yoshi shoves him into the corner,  but runs into an elbow.  Christian goes up top but is thrown off.  Yoshi leaps over the top, but misses the champ and lands very awkwardly.  Christian hits his own move over the ropes.

Crossbody by Tatsu.  His leg looks fine.  Christian with a neckvice.  Tatsu elbows out.  Christian hits a backbreaker out of a reverse DDT.  Chinlock with a knee to the back.  Christian rams his head into the turnbuckle

Yoshi blocks a tornado DDT  then goes up top and hits a spinkick off the top rope.  Rapid fire kicks by Tatsu.  Christian sends him into the corner but misses a charge then Tatsu hits a roaring elbow.

Kilswitch blocked by a kick to the back.  Tatsu sent into the ropes and Christian stands on his back, heads to the outside and decks him.

Second rope dropkick by the champ, but a top rope misses and Tatsu jackknife covers him.  Double knees in the corner by Tatsu.  Reverse DDT by Christian.  Killswitch blocked by a kick to the back

Tatsu rolls through a springboard sunset flip and hits a kick.  Another Killswitch blocked after Christian ducks the finishing kick.  Pendulum kick after dodging a corner charge, followed by a diving Euro uppercut by the champ.

He finally hits the Killswitch for the win, then checks on Yoshi.  Ezekial and Kozlov come down and flatten both men, hitting a double Uranage on the champ.  Regal hold the belt and stand over him.

Despite only two matches in an hour ECW felt jam packed tonight.  Both matches were excellent.

I do feel sorry for Shelton.  It seems like he’s going to be in line for a push but with his and Sheamus’ feud cut short he didn’t get much chance to look good against the Celtic Warrior.  And at one point during the match, when they were getting ready to transition the advantage back over to Sheamus he was pretty much wrestling like a heel.  That’s something he’ll have to work on.

Meanwhile Christian did several nasty spots, such as choking a friend on the ropes without seeming like he was going to cross the line.  I’m almost surprised that Regal’s crew didn’t attack before the end of the match, sparing Yoshi the pinfall loss.

I still feel they’re going to far with the pushing Regal to the head.  His best role outside of authority figure as a heel is coldly calculating.  Making him crazy doesn’t really work for me.  I do hope Tiffany decides to make him earn his title shot.
